Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
While there is no typical student or class, we start with learning to fall! Judo relies on throws, falls, immobilizations, chokes etc and as such, we fall.....a lot!! Don't worry! You'll learn to fall from a height of 6' and jump up smiling! Fun, safe, fast paced classes for: self defense, fitness, character enhancement or competition!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our chief instructor is a Doctor of Chiropractic and holds a 4th degree black belt in Judo. His additional training in Toxicology as well as clinical nutrition and biomechanics lends a lot to the classes as he blends these sciences into our training. Dr Josh (Sensei) is an adjunct instructor at Chippewa Valley Technical College in the Law Enforcement program and instructs fledgling LEO's in martial arts training in addition to academy prep work.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Train as long as you like without long term contracts. $60.00 per month! That's it!
How did you get started teaching?
Dr Josh began his training while in grad school and employed as a doorman at a club known as Cabana Joes. Due to many unsuccessful encounters with angry patrons, it became necessary to learn to defend himself and others.
What types of students have you worked with?
Law enforcement, Military, EMT/Paramedic, medical professionals, teachers, administrators, law firms and everyone in between. We have worked with professional hockey players on gripping strategies for the inevitable on ice fights as well as homemakers who want to learn to defend themselves and their home.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Talk to the instructor about their philosophy and WHY they train! If they tell you they train to teach people to fight, walk away. If they tell you their goal is to teach people not to fight, you're on to something!!
