About

I have a BA in Music from NYU and have been teaching private guitar lessons since graduating in 2009. I am able to cover many topics, including rock, metal, jazz, classical, improvisation, transcription, composition, general dexterity and more. My lessons are interdisciplinary, designed to improve musical comprehension, creative wherewithal, and confidence. Let's build something together.

In 2008 I founded PYRRHON, an experimental metal band from NYC. Our recently released fourth album, Abscess Time, received widespread critical acclaim by notable publications like Decibel, PopMatters, Chicago Reader, and The Quietus. We have extensive international touring experience and have worked with several renowned metal labels, including Willowtip and Relapse Records.

Outside of PYRRHON, I compose solo guitar pieces, improvise avidly, and independently study classical and jazz guitar.

I've always been fascinated by the student-teacher dynamic. Having spent most of my childhood and early adult life studying with various private instructors, I have developed my own dynamic teaching style which I can customize for each of my students. Nothing feels better than working endlessly with a student to achieve a goal of their's and to look back on all of the progress that we make together.

I had never touched a guitar in my life before. So I was an absolute beginner. I am so glad that I found Dylan as my first teacher. He was friendly and patient, also with robust knowledge. We started learning lessons in early March. He walked me through every fundamental stuff and basic knowledge of music theory. I started from scratch then Im able to read the music sheet and play a couple of songs that I like by myself right now. Every week he showed up on time. And he helped me extract sheet music from YouTube music videos. Dylans lessons really helped me progress quite well with my beginner level. I would say I could have spent much much more time to achieve where I am without him. I wanna thank Dylan for being inspiring and encouraging on my guitar learning pathway. I would recommend Dylan to anyone who wants to play guitar regardless of age or skill level.

I have taken 3 lessons with Dylan so far and I am really enjoying them. He is very good at picking up on what level I am at and how to push me without being harsh. He makes sure I am playing correctly before moving on and gives good practice exercises.
Its a lot of fun to learn with Dylan and he takes the time to really look and listen to me playing and provide feedback which is the whole point of one on one lessons. He is very knowledgeable about music and very humble. He handwrites the tabs for lessons which is totally awesome. Looking forward to keep learning from him.

Frequently asked questions

I really enjoy the process of getting to know a new student and better understanding their skill level and goals. Generally, I'll pinpoint one specific topic as a jumping point, and then use that as a means to broaden out scope of study in the future. If you have any questions about how I would go about developing a curriculum for you, don't hesitate to get in touch!
