Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During the first hour I interview the student to learn what their music goals are, based on their music goals, I can now map out a teaching approach to get them to their goal as quickly as possible. I have a host of programs I will then use. Based on their learning style I will see which one of the teaching programs I can use to help the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 39 years of experience in music education. I always keep updating my edcational approach because music education keeps evolving.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I have a standard pricing of $40 per hour for the lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
I always loved music since I started at the age of ten. I knew since then I would be doing music all my life. So is was first love for music that got me started in teaching music.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have thought over 4000 students. I have taught persons of all walks of life. I taught doctors, surgoens, teachers, kids, elderly, attorneys, persons that adoes nearly all types of jobs. I also teach mentally challenged adults and kids.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Never take lessons from a teacher that uses the same method for all. Why? Because everyone learns differently and because everyone learns differently it is never an effective teaching approach to use the same piano method.
Also never take lessons from a piano teacher who does this part time. Why? Because they are not fully commited to teaching piano they have one foot in piano teaching and one foot doing something else so they are not focused on what they are doing. They will never be as good as a piano teacher doing this full time. I have been teaching piano full time the past 29 years.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They need to know what their music goals are. Also make sure the teacher is competent. They also need to look at the lesson fees knowing that the most expensive doesn't really mean it is the best lessons. They need to think about flexible scheduling also.
