Tal Yahalom - Guitar & Music Theory Lessons
About
As a teacher, I have a strong desire to build curiosity, confidence and creativity with my students, while providing all the emotional and technical support necessary to learning an instrument and developing a healthy and fun relationship with it and the music we work on!
I have many years of experience with people from all across the world, all genders, ages and levels, and hope we can work together to fulfill your goals!I am very communicative, punctual and open minded, and give a lot of myself to facilitate engaging and diverse classes for each individual.
I'm an award winning guitarist and have received honors from the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz International Guitar Competition, The Montreux Jazz Festival International Guitar Competition (CH) and The Detroit Jazz Festival National Guitar Competition. I have years of performance experience worldwide and toured as a leader and sideman across the US, Europe, Canada and Israel.
I love seeing my students excited and curious about music, and enjoy opening new creative possibilites for them and developing a personal connection with the instrument built on what they enjoy most.
There's nothing like the moment when something really clicks for a student and I feel that moment will be memorable for a long time. Or the sense of achievemnt after a lot of hard work when you recognize how far you've come.
Creating a space for that and supporting each individual's process means a lot to me, and I'm always learning new thing about music, people and communication along the way.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I enjoy tailoring my classes to the student's needs, stylistic preferences, and artistic passions. It's very important to me to develop a personal relationship with the student and create a comfortable and open minded environment for dialogue, exploration and growth, allowing the student to be himself/herself. During our first lessons, we would discuss specific styles/bands/artists the student connects to, any past experience with music and the guitar, and goals for our process together. Through that I would build a structured yet flexible lesson plan that is geared towards the individual's needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In 2016 I graduated as Valedictorian with a BFA from "The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music", New York.
I have 7 years of private teaching experience and have also conducted numerous masterclasses in some of the best high schools, music departments and conservatories in Israel.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I teach one on one, usually 1 hour lessons for $80/hr.
I'm definitely flexible regarding lesson duration and we can work together to find the best fir for you!
I also discounted lesson packs for longer term students.
I believe all students benefit more from a consistent lesson schedule and the support and connection it brings.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with beginner students who are looking to learn the fundamentals of the instrument and music vocabulary, to active professional musicians seeking to broaden their creative possibilities, dig deeper into their personal voice and practice routine, and explore more advanced techniques and concepts.
I specialize in jazz and music theory, but have a lot of experience teaching classic rock, folk, pop, alongside classical guitar, composition, and arranging for the guitar.
I have many years of experience with people from all across the world, and of course all genders, ages and levels are welcome!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should share their musical taste and what they enjoy listening or playing to, alongside areas they'd like to focus on and explore together. That way I could build personalized lessons and a long term plan for them to fulfill their aspirations and have fun doing it!
