About
I have more than 25 years of experience as a professional performing guitarist. I have more than 15 years of experience as a private instructor in addition to teaching at a major university 9Universoty of New Mexico). I have played in some of the most renowned venues in the world and my playing has appeared on grammy nominated recordings. I love teaching and offer students a fun, dynamic and engaging lesson atmosphere without ever losing focus on short, medium and long term goals.
Here's a short biography of my credits:
Calvin has recently relocated to the United States after 20 years of living and working as a professional guitarist in Madrid, Spain. He has performed at some of the most prestigious theatres in the U.S. as well as internationally including RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL and LINCOLN CENTER in New York City, TEATRO NACIONAL in Mexico City and TEATRO MADRID in Spain where his performances have enjoyed enthusiastic critical acclaim (NEW YORK TIMES, VILLAGE VOICE, etc.). Television appearances include THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO, GOOD MORNING AMERICA and THE REGIS AND KATHY LEE SHOW. Most recently, he was asked to collaborate with Spanish pop icon PABLO ALBORAN on the recording of “Terral”, the 5 time platinum selling record which enjoyed 11 straight weeks as Spain’s number 1 selling record. Before moving to New York City, he was working as adjunct porfessor at the University of New Mexico.
In recent years, as I am less inclined to tour and perform on such a rigorous schedule as I have in the past, I’ve shifted my focus and enthusiasm to my students. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than working with students and seeing them progress. I enjoy working with students of all ages and levels. I work with children and recently had the opportunity to direct a youth guitar program at a charter school. I have students who are full-time professional players and are looking to polish their skills or expand their abilities. I also work with elderly people who are guitar enthusiasts.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first talk with the student in order to get an idea of their goals, their interests and what they are interested in working on. From there I discuss with them a bit of how we might go about acheiving those goals and work out a plan together with them. Within the first few sesssions I like touch base and see how they are doing with the methedology.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began studying guitar when I was 8 years old and continued with private lessons in different capacities and with different instructors throughout my youth. By the time I was in college I was working professionally and for the second two years of my bachelor degree studies, I was balancing my studies with a demanding tour schedule, performing nationally and internationally. My degree at university was liberal arts and included heavy focus on music classes.
