About

My teaching approach:

Hi there, my name is Armand Aviram, I'm currently the music director of a school in Port Washington, Long Island and I teach private guitar lessons at my studio in Brooklyn. My studio location is right near the L train and very convenient for anyone coming from Manhattan or living in Brooklyn. I've been teaching for 10 years now and I'm very confident in my style and methods. I tailor my lessons to students' individual preferences while making sure to provide each student with a solid foundation in reading music and basic technique. Looking forward to hearing from you!

My influences are:

I grew up listening to classic rock - The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, as well as the classic bands of the 90s - Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden etc. My taste in music has grown and evolved very much, I listen to everything from classical music (chopin, beethoven, bach) to electronic (depeche mode, daft punk, nine inch nails) to hip/hop to brand new bands that have anything unique to offer.

My guitar lessons take place in:

The teacher's studio or the student's home

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

I teach mornings/late evenings during the week. I also teach pretty much anytime on Fridays. Saturday evenings as well. I'm always able to find a time that works with new students.

Guitar Techniques:

Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:

First lessons always start off slow depending on skill level and prior experience, but at the same time I make sure to leave a new student with something they can work on at home and make sure they stay encouraged. The first few lessons can be frustrating, learning anything new is difficult and draining. It's important to be positive! I like to start off by giving an overview of the guitar, show the student how things work, basic technique, go through some light note-reading and finger exercises. It's always good to have a plan for future lessons and set some goals.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

I always like to break up my lessons into a few different areas depending on skill level and preference. Most of the time it breaks down to this: I. Warm-ups/technique exercises - It's important to warm up and dedicate time in every lesson to specific techniques that will be useful later on in the lesson. Just like an athlete who stretches before playing their sport. II. Reading/Scales/Method Books - I always like to make sure my students have at least 1 book they're working in. It provides structure and keeps you motivated. III. Songs/Fun Stuff/Student's Choice/Specific Goals

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

Someone who has a genuine interest in progressing on the instrument. I also love when a student has a solid goal and is focused on a specific style. Anyone who is passionate about music and understands the healing power of music and its therapeutic value. It's never too late to start and it's a beautiful thing to be able to take out a guitar and play something, it's something that lasts forever and will always be there.
