What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1. Learn what's important to the student. Music is large.
2. Determine what they already know, and what they don't.
3. Begin showing them how they can get from Point B (where they are) to Point A (where they want to be)!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Decades of real world experience as a working musician.
I'm on platinum tracks. I've done Broadway, music for film, toured the world.
And I have a Master's in Music Education.
How did you get started teaching?
People heard me play, heard me sing, and wanted to know what I know.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students of every level and almost every age. No one younger than 6, please.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I helped a student prepare to get into Laguardia High School. That's the school that was immortalized in FAME.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't choose a teacher who is going to teach what he wants to teach.
Choose a teacher who is going to teach what you want to learn.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are your goals, musically? Both short range and long range?
How much time do you want to spend working on this each week?
