You don't need any prior experience or know how to read music. Seriously. Here is why:
I have been blessed with a gift for teaching music in a way that makes it immediately useable and satisfying for all ages. My teen and adult students who often remark how much they enjoy this learning process.
Call or text me at 518-791-6185 and let's talk about what you would like. It really can be a fun and inspiring time.
My tireless studies of theory, technique and performance over the past 36 years have enabled me to give lessons to everyone from iconic classic rock guitarists to the kid just starting out and adults finally making the time for themselves to pursue an instrument.
Students earning scholarships, teens and adults writing and recording amazing songs and professionals spicing up their performance are among the many achievements my teaching method has provided. You won't find a more inspiring teacher or method.
My students say my approach makes learning fun. As a professional musician and music educator, I bring a diverse background of knowledge and provide highly effective lessons that are both fun and deeply informative. I also teach Bass, Ukulele, and site singing. In addition I run a music camp for Youth and teens as well as an adult weekend jam throughout the year.
I have shared recording credits with Trey Anastasio of Phish, Arlen Roth (simon and Garfunkel) Richard Bell (The Band) Hal Ketchum (Grand Ole Oprey) and many others. I am also a voting member of the Grammy's and a nationally recognized guitar maker.
My influences are: I love way too many artists and genres of music to put into this space.
My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I set a tone of positive, relaxed encouragement and learn as much as I can about the student, their goals and musical interests.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: I meet the student where they are at and continually strive to bring them to the level they wish to obtain. This could be as simple as someone wanting to learn a song for an occasion or enter a music school after high school or a pro looking to enhance his or her creative approach to the instrument. Students also benefit greatly from working with others at my music camps should they attend.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: My ideal guitar student is one that is able to enjoy the incredible impact music can have in ones life. I really enjoy seeing people express themselves through the guitar as well as songwriting. My students have written a combined total of over 100 songs in the past year.
Watching students progress and feel good about what they are doing.
Jimmy Page once said that everyone has their own identity coming through the guitar, and it's been a pleasure finding and developing mine with Don. Unlike other teachers, Don doesn't use a book, so the lessons are customized to fit each student's unique personality and taste in music. If you're an adult, you won't have to feel ridiculous playing children's songs, because Don will start you out with the music YOU like. Within a few short weeks, I was already playing Nirvana, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. Don also has a great way with people. I'm a shy individual, but I feel at ease working with him and his other students (who are also some pretty amazing people). Don challenges me to step outside of my comfort zone, but at a pace that I feel comfortable with. The experience of working him and the other students has given me a lot more confidence and has brought a lot of joy to my life. I feel so fortunate to have Don as both my teacher and friend.
My daughter was very shy when she started taking lessons from Don. She has been taking lesson for just over a year now, and is much more comfortable with performing. While she is still shy, Don has helped boost her confidence. Don is paitent with his students and really listens to his students. I can wait to see the next generation of musicians that Don and Mike help produce.
Don Warren's approach to teaching guitar is perfect for an older student like me. I was learning songs - not scales - at my very first lesson. Don made a point of learning what music I wanted to play and has customized my lessons to my musical tastes. But wait - there's more! Don is the Mr. Miyagi (see "The Karate Kid" films) of guitar teachers. Although I didn't realize it at the time, Don was teaching me guitar technique and music theory while teaching me songs I wanted to learn ("wax on, wax off"). I have made more progress in six months than I ever imagined I would. I recommend Don Warren to any guitar student.
Lessons and learning based not on formulaic approaches, using instead a very personal approach based on the student's interests, abilities and progress. I've said it over and over - I learned and was able to do more after my first lesson with Don Warren than the previous 50+ years of struggling and learning bad habits. After a few lessons with Don he turned those bad habits into a positive and after improving what I was doing said: "This is your signature way of playing". It is. And I like it.
It is a highly individualized approach for each student depending on level and goals.
