Which Student are you?

ADULT: I have been helping adults realize their dream of learning an instrument in a way that is truly enjoyable. My adult students tell me that my style turns their guitar time into a needed stress reliever and pleasurable experience they look forward to at the end of the day.

TEENS: You will not only get the skills to play, any style in a short amount of time, you will gain confidence and a great feeling of self empowerment.  The reviews and testimonies from parents and students have said this for years. My teens have an incredible time both with individual lessons and groups that get together as well as my music camps where they get to play under lights and fog and have a blast.

KIDS: The foundation I put in place leads to incredible understanding of music and how to perform. I have day camps for kids that let them play with others and learn solid communication skills and confidence.

I have been blessed with a gift for teaching music in a way that makes it immediately useable and satisfying for all ages. I have many teen and adult students who often remark how much they enjoy this  learning process

Call or text me at 518-791-6185 and let's talk about what you would like. It really can be a fun and inspiring time.

My tireless studies of theory, technique and performance over the past 36 years have enabled me to give lessons to everyone from iconic classic rock guitarists to the kid just starting out and adults finally making the time for themselves  to pursue an instrument.

Students earning scholarships, teens and adults writing and recording amazing songs and professionals spicing up their performance are among the many achievements my teaching method has provided. You won't find a more inspiring teacher or method.

My students say my approach makes learning fun. As a professional musician and music educator, I bring a diverse background of knowledge and provide highly effective lessons that are both fun and deeply informative. I also teach Bass, Ukulele, and site singing. In addition I run a music camp for Youth and teens as well as an adult weekend jam throughout the year.

I have shared recording credits with Trey Anastasio of Phish, Arlen Roth (simon and Garfunkel) Richard Bell (The Band) Hal Ketchum (Grand Ole Oprey) and many others. I am also a voting member of the Grammy's and a nationally recognized guitar maker.

My influences are: I love way too many artists and genres of music to put into this space.

My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:

I teach Monday - Friday Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I set a tone of positive, relaxed encouragement and learn as much as I can about the student, their goals and musical interests.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: I meet the student where they are at and continually strive to bring them to the level they wish to obtain. This could be as simple as someone wanting to learn a song for an occasion or enter a music school after high school or a pro looking to enhance his or her creative approach to the instrument. Students also benefit greatly from working with others at my music camps should they attend.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: My ideal guitar student is one that is able to enjoy the incredible impact music can have in ones life. I really enjoy seeing people express themselves through the guitar as well as songwriting. My students have written a combined total of over 100 songs in the past year.

Watching students progress and feel good about what they are doing.

Works well with all students. Vast knowledge of different music genres. Breaks down complicated pieces into easy to play passages.

I have been taking lessons from Don Warren for 4 years now. My experience has been wonderful. Don has taught me how to play and i am sure it was not easy for Don. He has many teaching techniques and he can and will approach each student as needed. Don makes it fun and you really will learn to play. He has Rock Camps for the teenagers and for the older students he has Rock Jams. These are fun events that are low key and are just a blast to be part of. I would recommend Don to anyone that wants to learn to play............

  • Lisa &Jacob Galvin.

He freely gives his knowledge & experiences in music. Always sharing different techniques. And just makes playing fun. Always very patient with us students. Thanks Don.

Don is an amazing guitarist (although he plays other instruments as well), so I immediately felt confident that what he teaches me is as good as it gets. He asks me what stuff I like and what I don't like, so he has a grasp of what are my strengths and what he has to work on with me. He is thoroughly encouraging toward his students and I always feel better about myself after a lesson. I tend to be very critical of myself, but Don makes me see the big picture and how much I have improved, even when I get impatient (which is often). I have a long way to go and as an old guy, maybe not a lot of time to get there, but he always makes me want to try. Don has become a treasured friend as well as the best teacher I have ever had, anywhere, any time.

Don is knowledgeable, adaptable, and enjoyable as a teacher. He is able to target instruction to meet individual needs, and keep track of weekly progress, seemingly effortlessly. I have not only a great teacher, but a friend.
