I teach electric and acoustic guitar, bass guitar, songwriting, and performance in either in-person or online lessons. Genres range from rock, pop, blues, metal, folk, indie/alternative, funk, and more!
My teaching style is eclectic, individually-tailored, and focused to meet the needs and skill levels of each student to help them reach their goals in a fun and inspiring way. I am passionate about creating an inviting, laid-back, and goal-oriented environment for learning. With nearly two decades of experience including touring, appearing as a session musician, songwriter, and producer on albums, and working with a wide variety of learning styles, I am confident that we can get you to where you want to be in your musical development!
Lessons start with understanding of the student’s specific goals and musical interests. From here, students begin with learning proper techniques and introductory knowledge of the instrument to quickly start playing some of their favorite music, learning solid music theory application throughout the process, if this is what the student wishes to accomplish!
In addition to private one-on-one lessons, group lessons are also offered, where skills ciritical to peformance and playing with other musicians are developed. Students will also be able to learn, rehearse and play together on their favorite songs as well as get the opportunity to learn composition skills, theory, improvisation and application in a group environment to develop a conversational fluency in their musicianship.
Opportunities to meet outside of the typical lesson environment are also offered through my kids and teen rock camps, as well as adult day jams. More info on this is available on my site!

I look forward to starting your music journey together!
Mike is an outstanding guitar instructor. His ability to structure a program of lessons based on my individual needs is outstanding. He is easy going, patient and communicates in an easy to understand manner. Mike will teach you what you want to play and relate concepts to examples in popular music which I really appreciate. I highly recommend Mike to anyone that wants to learn guitar.
Mike is an awesome guitar teacher! I have been playing guitar for 17 years and am a singer-songwriter in my spare time. When I first began lessons with Mike in May 2021, I knew basic open chords and was able to write songs using them, but wanted to improve my technical skills and understanding of music theory/guitar concepts. Mike started out reviewing basics and had me memorize open chords and scales. We then went onto topics that were new to me, such as modes and barre chords. Mike’s teaching style is directive and methodical, while also maintaining a laid back/casual vibe. He is always patient/encouraging and leaves me feeling excited to practice! Recently, I decided to record an album of my original songs. Mike and I decided to focus on this project for several months and he acted as a mentor to me. His guidance has made something that at first seemed like a daunting undertaking feel manageable and fun. I would definitely recommend Mike for anyone looking to learn guitar or improve their guitar skills!
Wonderful teacher. I came to Mike as a semi-self taught guitar player who could strum some basic chords and not much else. He's provided a solid understanding of the fretboard and the music theory I needed to start playing leads and improvising, which has always been a big goal of mine. Mike is also very receptive to his students, which is something I really value in a teacher. He listens to what your goals are and takes pains to learn what kind of music you want to play, and does a great job of integrating that into your lessons and giving you the tools you need to get there. Highly recommended.
I’ve been taking lessons with Mike for about 3 years and during that time, I have certainly improved a ton. He is extremely talented, kind, patient and easy to get along with. Lessons are lots of fun and I always leave learning something new.
