Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I do is evaluate your base fitness level. I have had people who came to me and were sparring 12 rounds in as little as a week. I also get clients who could barely do a sit up and developed the same level of fitness within 5 months, so it all depends on the individual.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a USA Boxing certified trainer. I was under the tutalage of a former professional fighter for two and a half years. I have coached 17 bouts, competed in the Goden Gloves three times and in various amateur shows, and the New York City Metros.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We charge a very competitive $30 a week for training service and $30 a month to use the facility. The first session is free.
How did you get started teaching?
I started out training friends. After a while, and because of positive feedback, I decided to start doing it as a career. The rest is history.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all ages, sexes and LGBT clients'. Sport is a tool that should be used to bring people together, build character, discipline and other traits that make for a well rounded individual.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have a young man who has tremendous desire. There is a lot of work ahead to get him in boxing shape, but half the journey requires desire.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A trainer with imperical knowledge is extremely valuable, there are too many individuals teaching boxing who have no competitive experience. Having a trainer you feel comfortable with and respect is also paramount.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. Know your goal
2. Call your local boxing clubs to get a sense of pricing so you have an idea of whether you are being charged reasonably
3. Make sure you are comfortable with the trainer before you commit to working with him or her.
