What is your typical process for working with a new student?

The first thing I do is evaluate your base fitness level, from there we will decide how to proceed. I have had people come to me and they were sparring 12 rounds in as little as a week. I also get clients who could barely do a sit up and developed the same level of fitness within 5 months, so it all depends on the individual in question.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a USA Boxing certified trainer. I was under the tutalage of a professional fighter for two and a half years. I have coached 16 bouts in three years. None of my athletes have been knocked out, cut or pummeled to the point that they had to quit. My trainer encouraged me to research sports science which allowed me to incorporate innovative methods that make pugilism accessible to a wider range of individuals.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Part of the mission of our organization is to make fitness affordable to the communities we serve. The minimum market value for boxing training is $50 a week, we charge 30. Normally you pay a monthly fee to a boxing club and whatever the trainer is charging. The way our financing plan is set up, we pay all of our clients' and athletes' monthly membership cost, limiting thier payments to personal training service saves them lots of $$$$$$$$$$, compared to the average boxing club.

How did you get started teaching?

I started out training friends. After a while, and because of positive feedback, I decided to start doing it as a career. The rest is history.

What types of students have you worked with?

I've worked with all ages, sexes and LGBT clients'. Sport is a tool that should be used to bring people together, build character, discipline and other traits that make for a well rounded individual.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I have had the privledge of working with a lot of terrific people. As of this date, Thursday August 16, 2018, Justin Duncan is one of those individuals. His first bout is on September 15, 2018. A champion is not just what an athlete does on the field of play, it's also who they are, and he is a champion.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Being a good parent, teacher or coach require similar traits a love of people, personal responsibility, character and effective communication are among the essential characteristics.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Individual sports or personal training have a unique dynamic. If you're involved in a team/group sport/activity and you're not getting along with the coach or trainer, you can lean on your teammates/fellow participants in a way that is not as helpful in a primarily one on one engagement.

In individual sports or personal training, the relationship with the coach or trainer is more paramount. I try to show as much of my personality as I can on my website. This way people are able to make a comprehensive decision about potentially working together. I would say you should consider the probablility of a personality match first and foremost, if you have chemistry there, everything else has a way of falling into place.
