About
I provide 38 years of experience in the Chinese arts of Tai Chi, Chinese Boxing, Pakua, and Walu. Lessons are customized for individuals in private and small group lessons. Areas of focus vary in a sense, but all promote health.
If your interest is in personal safety, we offer self defense training in short course form. These courses can be formatted in length from as short as 2-3 hours to as long as 13 weeks. This training is intended to provide survival skills useful when one is under personal physical attack. It is usually presented to groups, and is a fun and useful thing to do with your friends or co-workers.
For those who are interested in the long-term benefits of martial arts training, The Den offers very high level kung fu training drawn from a number of arts. The arts of greatest influence in our training are tai chi, pakua, walu, wing chun, and chin na studies. The "why" of things is explained in great detail. All of that mystical stuff is pretty cool, but when your life is on the line you want to know what works and why it works.
If wellness is the focus, our tai chi program is recommended. With practice, you will certainly see improvements in balance, range of motion, and calmness of mind. Many claim improvements in blood pressure, and in the symptoms of MS and fibromyalgia. I make no such claims, but am happy to teach someone who thinks that tai chi may help whatever symptoms they are battling. We offer both Yang style and Chen style.
Have a group? The Den offers coprorate programs for Tai Chi and Fall Prevention. Want to learn self-defense with friends? The Den offers semi-private lessons structured around your specific needs. Custom quotes provided.
Expect a freindly instructor and training customized to the students' individual needs and objectives.
Thirty-eight years of study in chinese martial arts has changed my life dramatically, and for the better. While a reasonably high level of fighting skill has been achieved, the real benefits have been realized in other areas of my life. The positive impact on confidence, discernment skills, and general health and well-being have been well worth the time and effort invested. Every day, I see people in my peer group and younger who have problems that I know could be helped with a practice of the arts. I enjoy helping people discover these benefits. If you can find and read this, it is not too late to realize SOME benefit from the practice.
I also enjoy very much the teaching/coaching aspect of the training. It is very fulfilling to see the proverbial light bulb come on for students, and to see their skills grow before my very eyes.
