About

My service is great, because I always cater the lessons to fit what the student wants. After studying classical music in college, I found that I was forced to learn music that I was not particulary interested in. While I gained a lot from learning music that's rooted in western music fundementals, I know this way of learning isn't for everybody. Thus, I always want the student to feel like they're in some control of the content we study.

Don't get me wrong... If classical and traditional western music is what you want to study, I can teach that as well. I just like to give students a voice, is all.

It's fulfilling seeing my students excel in their field of interest. After giving my first lesson in 2016, I've done my best to maintain a positive, intellectual experience through and through. Music school has taught me a lot, but I also learn from my students every day!

John is a very patient instructor who took the time to learn what I was interested in and teaches me everything I need to know to grow toward those interests. He is super approachable and understanding and I really appreciate that.

    Frequently asked questions

I always find what the student knows, then I curate a lesson plan that fills the gaps in their knowledge. If they're a complete beginner, then we start from the ground up, learning basic technique, theory vocab, and immediately begin studying music of their interest.

I graduated with a BFA in Music at Trinity University, with a focus in theory! I've taken early childhood development courses, as well as music education courses within the 4-year college timeframe.

I'm willing to help you out if this isn't financially feasible.

Back in 2015 I started giving lessons during college so I could buy textbooks for my classes. I found myself enjoying the experience and continued giving lessons after I graduated. It's mainly all I do now.

My oldest student is 66, and my youngest is 5. I've taught war vets, stay at home moms, toddlers, you name it!

Make sure you know exactly what you want. Theory? No Theory? Are you just trying to find out where to put your fingers on a fret board to play your favorite solo, or are you trying to understand why  superchromatic lydian sounds the way it does? It's crucial for students to know what they want, or even what they don't want. Have a talk with the prospective instructor to see if they can satisfy your musical needs!
