Daniel T. says, "Our philosophy and principals of self defense are in agreement. Due to some previously scheduled surgery I only just attended my first private lesson. The facility is excellent, the breadth of training available is ample, and the techniques concentrate on complementing the body's natural reaction to sudden threat stimulus and concentrate on gross motor skills rather than complex techniques. This approach reduces reaction time vis a vis Hicks law and the OODA loop. I look forward to my next session. These skills can be learned by all, regardless of age, infirmity, or prior skill sets." How much are boxing classes?

  • Wraps or gauze: $5 to $20

  • Mouth guard: $10 to $20

What are the weight classes in boxing?

There are 17 different weight classes in boxing that help prevent injury and promote fair fights. Only people in the same weight class can box with each other. The lightest class is called Strawweight and is for people that weigh 105 to 107 pounds. The largest is Heavyweight and is for people over 200 pounds.

Are boxing classes worth it?

Boxing classes are worth it if you're looking for a good whole-body workout or want to learn self-defense. Boxing is easier to learn and inexpensive compared to many gym memberships or martial arts classes.

Boxing is not only a good cardio workout, it also works out the arms, legs, and core. This fighting style also releases tension in a safe environment while helping you reach fitness goals.

How many boxing classes should I attend per week?

Most people attend boxing classes 1 to 3 times per week, though this depends on your budget and schedule. For the best results, consider exercising at the gym or at home in between classes to build strength and endurance.

What should I wear to a boxing class?

Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing and shoes to a boxing class. Most people wear shorts and a T-shirt or tank top. Remember to bring a water bottle and small towel to hydrate and remove sweat during the workout.

  • Follow a payment schedule instead of making large payments up front.

What questions should I ask boxing instructors?

When looking for local boxing classes, ask these questions:

  • How long have you been teaching boxing classes?
  • Are you licensed and insured?
  • How many students do you have?
  • Are you experienced teaching beginners?
  • Do you have any current openings?
  • Are there any other people in my weight class here?
  • How often would you recommend meeting based on my experience level?
  • Can I have an estimate or contract in writing?

Both my husband & I started Self Defense lessons with Coach Justin; from the moment I walked in I felt comfortable around him. In the first lesson I went home feeling so much better. He is able to fit in a ton of information in one hour. He teaches you real life situations. We're very pleased with everything he has offered us & has taught us. I wouldn't chose a different instructor even if I could. I can't wait to see how far both my husband & I can go. Thank you Coach Justin for teaching us & continuing to teach us.

He takes real good care of his clients! He makes sure you are never overworking your muscles when using weights and machines. He even works alongside you to make sure you understand how to do the moves and that you have a good form to avoid injury.

My boys have been taking karate for three years with Ray Gomez. This is a fantastic school with a very family feel. Excellent technical training and Mr. Gomez is so great with the kids. We previously took classes at another Dallas area school that was good, but the instructors were largely college and high school kids. Mr. Gomez personally teaches all of the classes with black belts training underneath him assisting in class time. The times are very convenient for training after school and in the early evening. I cannot speak highly enough about the technical skill being taught. This is not a belt factory at all. There are very high expectations for all students. Along with the karate skills being taught Mr. Gomez really stresses honor, respect, and self control. We also love the family feel of the school. The students all get to know each other as do the parents. Mr. and Mrs. Gomez are there every single time we come to class. I cannot speak highly enough of Ray's and Mr. and Mrs. Gomez!
