About

We are more than just a music school- we are a music community. Through online private lessons, classes, performances, juries, and more, our students grow musically in a positive, encouraging, and exciting environment.

Our faculty members are the best music instructors in Texas, some of whom are members of the Dallas Symphony, Dallas Opera, and other similar arts organizations.

With online lessons, you can study music anywhere, at any time. We are so excited to help you become the best musician you can be.

NOTE: As of 5/26/21, we are no longer able to accept adult students. Contact us with any questions or concerns.

    Frequently asked questions

When a new student signs up for lessons at Texas Music Institute, we will match them with the perfect teacher depending on their current level and their musical needs and goals.

We ask students who have already been playing to send in a short audition tape for our teachers to get to know them before they get started. We also love beginners! If you are a beginner, you don't have to send in an audition tape.

Once you are registered and in our system, you'll be able to pay our modest $25 registration fee. TMI administration will get you connected with your teacher and help facilitate your lesson scheduling and get you ready for your first lesson!

Once you register as a TMI student, we'll send you some swag mail with cool stickers and pins to show our appreciation and excitement.

Most of our faculty members have master's degrees and terminal degrees, and many are on faculty at universities like Southern Methodist University and UT Arlington. Additionally, some of our faculty are current members of major US orchestras including the Dallas Symphony and Dallas Opera, and many have held previous positions in other major symphonies like the Houston Symphony and more.

You can find faculty bios on our website here:

One of the unique, wonderful things about Texas Music Institute is the fact that we let our faculty members get paid what they deserve. We believe that professional musicians, especially those with decades of experience and education, do not deserve to be paid the low wages that many other music schools pay!

Our faculty members set their own pay rates, and we charge just a small fee on top of their pay. Each faculty member has different tuition rates, so contact us if you would like to know the rate for a certain teacher or instrument!

Our faculty members have worked with students of all ages and levels, from 4-year-olds to conservatory students and professional-level musicians!

    1. Make sure you like the music school and teacher! You are interviewing/auditioning them as much as they are you.

    2. Don't just go for the cheapest teacher or school. Cheaper is not always better.
