Yoga is something that has changed my life. The amazing thing about yoga is that it has something different to offer everyone, and if you give it the time it will shine rainbows over every storm.
My philosophy is that yoga is whatever you want it to be for you. If you want it to be a workout, it will be a workout. If you want it to be a lifestyle; a new way of seeing yourself and the world, that is what it will be for you. The potential of what yoga is and what it can do is endless because our potential is endless.
Yoga is much more than what happens on your mat, maybe only %10 of yoga actually happens on the mat and that can be intimidating because it may feel like we will never be true yogis. But, although the other 90% may be hard to understand or practice, it is the most exciting part because it is what will change us. There is no right or wrong way to go about these aspects of yoga, no asanas to master and check off the list to make you feel like more of a yogi, it is just you and your potential. Also, the journey is never-ending.
Yoga kind of reminds me of vampires (stay with me here) in all my anxiety teen vampire shows/books, when someone transitions into a vampire all of a sudden all of these senses are heightened. The way the see, smell, hear, and experience the world is completely different. I think that is what yoga does for people. Maybe nothing in your outer world physically changes, but you see it all differently and your life experience begins to shift into something new and vibrant. You awaken different parts of you and you come to know yourself and the universe in a different way.
Yoga has already played such a large role in my life, my self-discovery, and my self-acceptance. I can’t imagine how much more is in store for me if I continue to put in the work and believe and invest in the process that is yoga. I am so thankful that I stumbled upon this, and I can’t imagine my life without it.
