Yoga With Desiree
About
Hello friends, my name is Desiree! As a teacher and student of yoga, I am looking to help people in my community achieve the benefits of a well rounded yoga practice. Yoga has the healing properties not just for the physical body, but also for the mind and soul as well. Benefits range from increased flexibility and strength to decreased anxiety and depression. I understand that beginners may experience discomfort and insecurities when starting in a class setting, so let me come to you and guide you through the foundations of yoga. New to the practice or not, yoga is for every body and everybody.
Take care my friend

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With working with a new student, I first would like to discuss beforehand their goals. Physical goals and mental/emotional goals. We will discuss physical history (any injuries/surgeries) and plan what is the best plan suited for their body. To start our practice together, we will focus on basic posture and breath work, and build onto their "edge".
How did you get started teaching?
I find myself more of a student of yoga than a teacher. I learn from everyone in every class and shared moment. Yoga does not have a destination to arrive at once you have completed "x" amount of training or postures. I began to teach others once I realized the life changing benefits implementing yoga into my daily life. When you discover something wonderful, it becomes impossible to keep it to yourself.
What types of students have you worked with?
I mostly have worked with beginners. People brand new to their mats. Although I love working with all experience levels, beginners and I have a particular bond when it comes to the struggles of starting something new. It took me a long time to build up confidence to come into a studio, and I feel like these insecurities are common, so when it comes to relating to the anxiety and emotions that come with starting something new, I know loud and clear of what that feels like and try my best to support the development of a beginner.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Probably one of my favorite teaching moments was a sunset, backyard session with a group of wonderful beginners that were so uncomfortable moving their bodies in front of their friends. In the beginning of the session there was so much tension and insecurity, but by the end of the class everyone was so proud of themselves and one another that they all wanted to continue practicing together. Yoga is a wonderful tool for building community and although these people were already friends, I had the opportunity to teach them a different way of supporting each other.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that resonates with you! Just like any teacher of any subject, there is someone out there that wean support you and your growth. Never feel like you need to "be like" your teacher, your practice is about YOU. try them on like shoes ;)
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what your goals are for starting a new practice and be honest with your teacher about them. Honesty with yourself is going to be important when implementing all limbs of yoga.
