Sherry D. says, "Pam is a great Yoga teacher. She pays attention to everyone individually in the class, helping us to do the poses correctly. She's very good about telling us to listen to our bodies and not stress or strain our bodies. She describes and shows us the poses in a very easily understood way. She adapts each pose to what each student needs for their body. She's also very patient. I highly recommend her!" Read more

To deepen her understanding and propel her skills, she took on teacher training during a difficult transitionary period in her life. She believes yoga saved her from anxiety, depression and gave her a sense of purpose during her intense and stressful life events. Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

Trudy
I have had several different yoga instructors over the years and the result was I decided I didn’t like yoga. Pam’s yoga class is exactly what I am looking for and now I like yoga. Pam explains each position well. She challenges you without being unrealistic about the abilities of the students. She also shares the philosophy and attitudes of yoga. I feel that I am learning the full disciplines of yoga in Pam’s class.

Nazanine is a gifted yoga instructor. She has been working with me in transforming my bad habits and balancing my chakras for approximately 2 years. Not only does she know the anatomy but she is all about being safe and aligned. She has such a positive vibe about her. I have learned so much from her teachings. I recommend her to anyone wanting to having a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Kadisha is a terrific swim instructor, and I can recommend her without hesitation. She taught me bilateral breathing (something I have tried and failed to do previously) which has helped me become a better, more efficient swimmer. Our swimming sessions have been a lot of fun and she has been patient and supportive at every step. If you’re looking for a swimming instructor, you cannot go wrong with Kadisha.
