I specialize in and have a passion for working with beginning yogis. I teach SmartFLOW yoga, which is rooted in classical yoga and Vinyasa flow, but distinguished by intelligent pose sequencing - with a focus on a specific kinetic chain or particular anatomical inquiry - as well as a rigorous focus on proper alignment and modifying poses safely, as needed.   Our classes together will be 60 or 90 minutes in length, at your location or in my home studio in Oakland. Class structures are similar, although a 90 minute session affords more peak pose time, and the opportunity for deeper, more complete relaxation at the conclusion of class. We'l ... View Profile

Yoga has brought much joy, ease and freedom to my life: balancing a hectic corporate life and grad school over a decade ago, recovering from a motorcycle accident, to staying grounded and clear-headed each day as I seek to weave yoga into life, in my own world, in relationship with others and in my classes. With over 500 hours of yoga and meditation studies, 2000+ hours of teaching experience, a dozen years of Vinyasa prior to 5+ years ongoing practice in Iyengar yoga and continued training with senior teachers, I seek to bring the same joy, ease and liberation - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually - in my classes.  I am i ... Personally, it took me years to open up to yoga - both as a physical practice and as philosophy so I have a lot of compassion for new students who are building body awareness, getting to know their being, perhaps feel intimidated in group settings or want to practice with friends only. I don't believe that there is only one way a posture can look like. Yoga is a journey, it's a slow and steady process. And if your hips aren't as open, we will work with what your body gives us instead of fixating on how a shape has to look.  I'm a certified RYT200 yoga teacher living and loving San Francisco. I completed my training at Yoga To The People, ... View Profile

How much do yoga classes cost?

Frequently asked questions

How much do yoga classes cost?

The average cost of single group sessions at yoga studios across the country is $15 to $20. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.
