C M. says, "Meg and I started working together while my daughter was a student in her group teen class at the studio near to our home. My daughter, who also studies dance, loved her clear and encouraging instructions. I saw how much my daughter and her friend felt the class was helping them gain physical strength and flexibility as well as a positive relationship with their bodies and wanted these things for myself! So I scheduled my own private sessions with Meg in my home and could not have been more pleased with the results. We worked together, once weekly, for almost a year before our family moved. In that time, Meg definitely helped me to heal from some running injuries, to improve my joint and muscle flexibility, to work on my balance, my sense of calm, and my confidence in my own body. She was consistently punctual, always warm and friendly, and very well prepared. Well worth every penny and every minute spent. I highly recommend her for teenagers and for adults. Thank you for bringing so much health and peace to our family, Meg! We miss you already." Read more

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

Carla is a very qualified professional with a very good vibe! When I took the first class I couldn't breathe properly and I didn't have the strength and focus to perform the postures, however, after Carla's special care and dedication, today I can go beyond what I thought I could and I'm very happy for that. What I like most about her classes is that she is always attentive to my postures and willing to correct them. At the end of the class, I feel peace and determination to continue. 🙏

Haleli has a gentle approach and recognizes that everyone arrives on their mats with different life experiences. She acknowledges our individualities and yet, is able to connect with everyone. Haleli has wonderful energy and you can feel the love she has for yoga. Every class I have taken from her has been enlightening. I have learned so much about myself through each class.

I hired Melinda as I felt she was best suited for my needs. I had been unable to exercise consistently due to various physical ailments. I wanted a personal trainer to help me start gently again in an exercise program focusing on strength, balance, flexibility and conditioning. Melinda more than delivered. I have been seeing her twice a week, focusing on all those areas and I feel so much better than when I began with Melinda. Unlike other personal trainers I had talked to who seemed much more all or nothing, go go go types, Melinda came across as one who was holistic and willing to work from where I was at (which was not very far lol). She is holistic, listening to not only what I say but what my body says and worked with me beyond a personal trainer many times as a physical therapist and a body worker to address the various health issues I had. Don't let the gentle sounding sessions fool you though. Through floor exercises (core and full body) and light weights, this helped me drop down two sizes and gain tone and definition to my body. Melinda also helped me get rid of foot and wrist tendinitis and has vastly improved my sciatica. I feel so much more freedom and far less pain in my body then when I began and I have Melinda to thank for that. I highly recommend Melinda!!

Casey is my favorite yoga teacher I’ve ever had. She was my teacher when I initially started practicing yoga. I’ve had teachers that have made me feel like I should be able to do something that my body was not yet capable of, but Casey always made every pose so accessible. She gives you options for how to modify the pose, while also coming around to physically help you into the correct position, without it being too much too fast. She has such a cheerful, friendly, and open personality and is wonderful at making everyone feel welcome. I can’t say enough wonderful things about Casey as a yoga instructor.
