I provide everything you need to know in one place. I was trained in classical piano performance at Northwestern University and Manhattan School of Music. For the past 11 years I have been a dedicated teacher to students of all ages and levels, tailoring each lesson to you, the student! We start off by playing from the Faber method books and in tandem learning how to read and analyze music, deepening your knowledge of music theory and physical technique. Then we will make a Wish List of your favorite material, along with suggestions from myself to help you get where you want to be. If you’re into it we can also explore improvisation and composition of your own songs! It is my pleasure to help you reach your goals, to learn to strategize and enjoy steady progress and achievement.
Music is what I eat sleep and breathe, so, what's not to love?! Every moment of the process of learning music, making music, collaborating, performing, composing, and teaching others is what I do best and love to do. I hope to make your experience as pleasurable and as challenging as you would like and hope to make it a very positive and engaging experience :)
Alex is a fantastic instructor with a substantial background in piano and music in general. His ability to bring together theory, regiment, and musicality was of great value.
I started taking lessons with Alex after already taking piano lessons for several years. Even from our first lesson together, I knew that he was a great teacher. We worked on technique, theory, and musicianship in every lesson. He also looks for the emotional connection that will allow you to grow as a musician; every piece has a meaning behind it, and he knows how to describe and paint the music really well. I took lessons from Alex for a few years and value everything that I was able to learn within them.
I have had Alex as my piano teacher for almost 5-6 years in my elementary to highschool phase. He was very kind and encouraging, and he always gave me a good challenge because he knew I could take it. Now looking back at my musical career playing the piano, my experiences and lessons I had with Alex has definitely been more than just about music. He taught me many more life skills like time management, and how to prioritize your time in achieving something big, and as cliche as it sounds, believing that I could indeed accomplish something if I put me heart to it, and I cannot be more happy with the experience I had with him. I definitely recommend taking lessons with him!
From the very first lesson I am learning about each individual student so I can tailor the experience to their own interests and abilities. A beginner will start with age appropriate method books and easy arrangements of their favorite songs. Getting to know a student with more experience takes some effort to find the appropriate level. From there, the sky is the limit! We can practice any style, any song or composition you like, and if it’s too difficult, we can develop a plan together to learn what’s needed to achieve those goals. It’s very important to me that each student can find their “Why” through building wishlists and setting goals.
