About
Wild Ginger Yoga Travels was started by Megan Kennedy, a certified yoga teacher who aims to take her students out in nature for yoga lessons. Megan got her bachelor's degree in psychology and master's degree in environmental science, so her yoga practice has been shaped by these perspectives. She was trained in Ashtanga Yoga, but incorporates other styles like yin yoga in her classes. A main focus in her practice is to release tension and move with the energy of the outdoor environment. Nature dictates Megan's everyday life and style of teaching in every way. She is an avid hiker and backpacker and uses yoga to stretch out the muscles used in these activities.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With a new student, I will ask questions about interests, goals and history and then we will practice together and progress from there. I like working one on one with students because I can look specifically at that person's practice and offer specialized advice. I also am very open to however the student wants to practice and can be flexible about the structure of the classes.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's degree in Environmental Science with a concentration in Sustainable Food Systems. In college, I focused on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and this eventually led me to an interest in mindfulness. Since graduating college in 2008, I have been on several meditation retreats and have been a part of a few mindfulness groups like the Buddhist Dharma Center in Northside. During my Master's Degree Program at Antioch University, I got involved with sustainable food networks and healthy eating. I worked with food co-ops and colleges as a sustainability coordinator focusing on healthy food that also supports the local economy. This has helped me to integrate healthy eating into the yoga practice as it helps the body get stronger and healthier.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
No standard pricing. It depends on the student's abilities and needs. If I meet a student one on one for an extended period of time, I will work out a package deal with them. Otherwise, I charge for each visit and that price will be determined by location and arrangements.
How did you get started teaching?
I decided to start teaching yoga when I realized that I would find a lot of fulfillment in sharing the practice with others. I started out my practice at home and first did yoga using books and videos. I finally decided to take my practice to the next level and do a teacher training when a friend suggested that I would be great at it. Curently, I study yoga movement, philosophy, meditation and pranayama every day and know that I can share some amazing techniques with others.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all types of students. Some of the students I currently teach include athletic and non athlethic middle aged students with no or little experience, and older adult beginners who have different therapeutic needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Last week, I went out on a hiking yoga adventure and saw the very first wildflowers coming up! I like to travel to natural areas to hike and do yoga. I went out with a friend/student on a 60 degree day to Fort Hill Earthworks in Ohio. We hiked along the rolling hills of eastern Ohio and found a nice spot with a view to do yoga.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice is to ask questions and go with a teacher that you think can help you with your interests and goals. Every teacher has a different style and background and a student deserves to find a teacher that is a good match for their particular needs.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What kind of yoga do I want to practice?
Why do I want to practice yoga?
What is most important for me in my practice?
What do I look for in a teacher?
