How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching one year after I had a stroke in my right eye. This was an attack on my body, that I never dream and/or imagined would ever happen to me, but it did. What I've learned through prayer, meditation and yoga has greatly enhanced and improved my circulation and alignment in my neck, back and various other areas of my over all well being.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all types of students from newbies, to beginners, to advanced students. I prefer newbies and beginners, as this is where I feel I can really hone in on the problem areas that a student may be facing as I did after I had a stroke in my right eye.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
As a Serial Entrepreneur, I own various companies in the United States and abroad. One of my companies, is an event planning company which produces and designs events around the girl. We created an event for women and combined it with business, and health and it was amazing! I was so delighted to learn of the power it rendered to so many women, and the affect it had on them. Because of that we are launching that Conference once again.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise a new student to look for someone whom will be sensitive and attentive to their needs first. It's sad but true, many Yoga Teachers are only interested in the payment fullfilment. While I realize we all have to make a living, I think new students should seek a teacher whom will take the time to make sure you understand the process, what to expect and the end results and benefits you will receive. That should be the first resolve extended to you by any teacher to whom you communicate.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The questions for example can be as follows:
1. How long have you pratice Yoga?
2. Why did you start your Yoga pratice?
3. What motivated you to be come a Yoga Teacher?
4. What certifications do you have?
5. What forms of Yoga do you offer when you teach?
I think perhaps beginning with these questions, will open up a good dialogue of communication and understanding before you begin. It will also provide the student with a sense of ease and calm about the teacher to whom their are looking to work with.
