What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We offer a free week of yoga to all new students! You can start your free week at any time and it will run 7 days from your start date. There is no need to preregister for classes. Simply show up to the class you want to attend 15 to 20 minutes early to fill out our new student form and communicate to the instructor that it is your first time, this way he or she will make sure to take a moment to demonstrate poses during class. Classes meet beginners where they're at and all students are encouraged to move at their own intuitive pace. We're all about an accessible approach to learning paired with practical hands on experience to drive accelerated results!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

With CorePower Yoga being recognized as the top teacher training school in the nation, we produce some of the best teachers in the yoga world, including locally right here in the Sacramento region.

How did you get started teaching?

Each of our instructors holds 200-Hour Yoga Certification recognized by Yoga Alliance. Having embarked on an inner journey of self discovery, strengthened their personal yoga practice and learned the skills to teach yoga and transform the lives of others, our teachers are all about an accessible approach to learning paired with practical hands on experience to drive accelerated results. CorePower Yoga instructors have learned to live their greatest life and help their students do the same!

What types of students have you worked with?

We truly tailor to beginners and encourage students to do our Free Week of yoga. Our classes range in challenge from beginner to more advanced. We recommend those who have never taken yoga before start with a CorePower Yoga 1 (C1) class. You'll practice in an unheated yoga studio* and explore the yoga postures and fundamental principles of Vinyasa yoga. Depending on your experience, we generally recommend taking 2-4 C1 classes before taking a CorePower Yoga 2 (C2) or a Yoga Sculpt class. We also offer Hot Power Fusion and Hot Yoga classes, which are also beginner friendly. During your first week, we encourage you to take at least 3 classes to help you create a solid yoga foundation, so you can reap all the benefits including strength training, focus, stamina and flexibility.

*While no heat is added during C1 classes, the practice room can reach temperatures up to 85 degrees due to earlier classes.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

A common fear of starting yoga is "I'm not flexible." You don't have to be flexible to start doing yoga! Yoga actually promotes flexibility. During the workday, much of our activity or, lack there of, shortens muscles. Think about how often you either sit at a desk, in your car or at home. Yoga lengthens and expands muscles while helping you release toxins that build up in your body over time. Becoming more flexible is a great benefit of yoga, but the ultimate goal is to live more powerfully in mind, body and spirit. This gain happens regardless of whether or not you can touch your toes!
