About

I have studied tai-chi, karate, aikido, and military combatives. However, I primarily teach to help everyone answer one question - how can I consistently come home safely to my loved ones? The focus is not fitness, art, or sport, but rather practical knowledge to survive. This includes physical fighting methods, awareness strategies to help spot and avoid trouble, de-escalation strategies to avoid a fight, and warrior philosophy.

I have taught self-defense for many years. Training people in the warrior arts and helping them learn how to stay safe against violent crime is my greatest passion in life.

I offer private lessons (one student only) as well as small group lessons (up to five students). I focus on helping each student develop to their full potential. Although self-defense training does carry some risk of injury, I always endeavor to train students safely.

Henry was very friendly and informative. Self-defence class was very fun and useful. We learned a lot of techniques and tips for life and for protecting ourselves in a dangerous situation.

I have been training in self defense with Henry Nguyen for over 2 months now racking up over 15 one hour sessions and I have learned a lot from our time. My schedule is a little crazy (working 15hours/day) so for me finding someone to work with my schedule was a little challenging but when I first talked to Henry he was very understanding to my schedule and was willing on seeing me 2 times a week from 8:30pm to 9:30pm at my house. Henry is extremely passionate about teaching self defense and if you ever ask him a question he does not know how to answer, you can expect a text the next morning answering your question in detail. I enjoy the session with him and will be continuing to have more

Frequently asked questions

I have dabbled in karate, aikido, and tai-chi, but for the past several years I have been focused on practicing commando style fighting - methods taught to Allied commandos during World War Two plus some techniques taught to CIA officers, US Army Special Forces, Navy SEALs, and US Marines.

For private lessons, I charge $100 per hour.  For group lessons (two to five students), I charge a combined total of $150 per hour (so for example, if teaching a group of five students, each student would only have to chip in $30 per hour).  I also offer a military and law enforcement discount of 20% off.  For new students, I offer a one hour FREE lesson so that you can try before you buy.

I have taught people aspiring to join the military as well as regular citizens.

What do you really hope to get out of self-defense lessons?  Are you looking for a martial ART, or are you looking for a MARTIAL art?  Do you plan to fight in a ring with a ref and rules, or do you want to prepare for life-threatening violent encounters on the mean streets?  Training for competition is diffferent than training for real-life violence, and you must be cognizatn of this and know what you REALLY want out of self-defense lessons before committing to it.
