What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We start with an evaluation to see where they are mentally, physically and emotionally. Then we place them in a class that's best for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
47 years of practicing Shotokan Karate. Working with more than 10,000 students in 30,000 classes. In Santa Rosa since 1981. Just celebrated our 35th anniversary. Awarded Best Martial Art School in 2016.

How did you get started teaching?
I was asked to help another student in a chemistry class in high school and found out that it helped me as much or more than it helped the other student.
What types of students have you worked with?
From age 3 to 103. Men, women, healthy, sick, injured, developmentally challenged, autistic, blind, deformed at birth... you name it we've worked with almost every type of student.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The most recent advancement to black belt of one of our students who had been struggling for years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Go in and get a feel for the school, environment and teacher.
