Jennifer B. says, "Jess is absolutely wonderful and attentive. At 54 I wanted to reignite my love for playing flute and Jess welcomed me and encouraged me in my journey. I had not played since high school and within the first two weeks she helped me rediscover my love for making music. I realized, with her encouragement, that I could relearn so much in a short time and was soon enjoying my flute once again. Jess is knowledgeable, patient, fun and super positive. My online class with her each week is the best hour of all." Read more

Manon M. says, "Marcy is amazing. Sincerely the best yoga teacher I ever had. Her experience and professionalism, along with her non-judgmental approach and deep kindness are priceless. I was looking forward every class I had with her, it was a treat for my body and mind. She personalized each class to make sure that my body’s needs were respected. If I needed some relaxing yoga or gentle stretching she was able to offer an amazing quality of teaching as much as if I needed a more “demanding and challenging” yoga. Marcy offers more than yoga classes, she brings peace and wellness into your life. I can’t recommend her enough." Read more

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

So, I am a RYT-500 whose personal practice hit a roadblock. I felt like I just couldn't find the right balance between my physical and spiritual practice (my spiritual practice is very solid). Quite by 'accident', I came across Yogi Brian's website (and I really don't believe in accidents!). I read all about his practice and I read the reviews. I sent an email and was responded to promptly with a good time to call. After speaking with Brian, I knew I needed to sign up for a private session. I signed up for two hours (I live 1.5 hours away). I just left my session and can I say, this was the BEST, most productive 2 hours EVER! Brian is extremely knowledgable, his instructions are crystal clear and he works with you at your own personal level. What really impressed me is that he had put together, ON PAPER, a specific 2 hour session for me after hearing from me what I needed that he gave to me when I left. My challenges were in arm balances and I had been struggling with some of the asanas for MONTHS. Although I know that asanas are a small part of YOGA, that was what I needed to work on. I not only landed the poses I was looking for, I landed a couple I had never done before. That definitely put the spark back into the physical part of the practice that has been missing for me. I have already signed up for my next session! If you are a seasoned practitioner or someone who is just starting, I can't recommend Brian enough...even if you live farther away, it is most definitely worth the ride. ~Namaste
