Karate is much more than an after school activity. Sensei Richard Zimmeran in Greenwich teaches students in a safe, low-key, fun way, to instill discipline and confidence. Kids who are confident are less likely to be bullied, or become bullies.
Sensei Richard Zimmerman has been teaching martial arts to kids and adults since 1997. He has developed a distinctive approach for fast, efficient learning.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
1963: Studied Martial Arts with Jay Gluck; author of popular Martial Arts book "Zen Combat".
1969-71: Studied Uechi-ryu Karate with Professor Freeman at the University of Rhode Island; Wakefield Dojo.
1971-1972: Studied Uechi-ryu Karate at Matteson Academy in Providence Rhode Island, with Sensei Earl.
1982: Joined Isshinryu World Karate Association.
1983: Received International Referee certification from Master Shimabuku
1984: Received certification in techniques of Arnis Lanada by Amante P. Marinas.
1984: Received certification in Vee Jitsu Te by Professor Florendo M. Visitation; Supreme Grand Master
1985: Received certification in Vee Jitsu Te by Professor Florendo M. Visitation; Supreme Grand Master
1985: Became member of Kapatiran Sikaran Ng Pilipinas; Meliton C. Geronimo President; Red Belt Degree.
1985/July: Received special training by Master Shimabuku in Norwalk Ct.
1986: Awarded Shodan in Isshinryu Karate by Professor Edward A. Brown, and Master Kichiro Shimabuku.

The quality of the teacher is more important than the style or the system being taught.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It is important for the student to determine specifically what type of training they are looking for. Traditional training is usually a longer commitment than simple self-defense training.
