Christion Tyler (“Ty”) Edwards fell in love with theatre artistry at a very young age, before he even knew the true meaning behind those words. An alum of the B.A. Theatre program, with minors pursued in Music and Dance, at James Madison University, Christion is an actor, creator, and physical theatre artist with a diverse set of skills and experiences. As an actor, Christion performed in the 75th anniversary season of Horn in The West (Rev. Isaiah Sims) in Boone, NC. He was also seen on the JMU Mainstage in William Shakespeare’s The Tempest (Ben Jonson/The Master), and Peter Shaffer’s Equus (Harry Dalton), as well as in numerous workshops of new works by JMU students, faulty, and alumni. Also while at JMU, Christion served as a director, fight choreographer, dramaturg, and vocal coach.
“I believe we, as artists, have the crucial responsibility of continuing on the traditions that were passed down to us by our mentors. It is up to us to keep arts education alive and accessible for the next generation of young creators and innovators. To keep the play alive. With this, I hope we may create a wider sense of community and empathy in the world. All it takes… is one opportunity.” - CTE
I love connecting with passionate, driven, and curious new artists and seeing them make discoveries. Ultimately, I love seeing them truly tap into their "wow" and their "why". That which drives them and makes them unique. Embracing their humanity to tell stories, and to have fun while doing so!
Ty (Christian) is wonderful with my daughter and has taught her many useful tools she’ll need in order to pursue her dream of voice acting. He has helped her to gain the confidence to reach out and audition for her first small role (which she landed!) and we’re hoping it will lead to many more! I can’t say enough good things about him and I’m so thankful we found him!!
Christion Ty Edwards is professional, kind and a courteous instructor. I also appreciate his flexibility, patience and his willingness to help in any area needed.
It is my goal to meet every student where they are at and build our journey around what the student truly wants from the lessons. I believe in a system of rigid flexibility -- having a framework in place but allowing what happens in the moment to guide us to what is next.
