Surabhi T. says, "I have been attending Poonam's Yoga lessons for couple of years now. It is a complete yoga experience where she teaches not just the yoga poses but also gives useful tips on how to adopt yoga as a lifestyle. She tells the details about each pose and stresses on proper breathing during the pose. She remembers each attendee's physical limitation (if any) and suggests alternate ways of doing a pose to them. Each class includes exercises for all parts of the body, and the progression of poses in a class seems to have a natural flow that makes it easy and enjoyable. I am so lucky to have found Poonam as my yoga instructor. Her techniques have helped me learn the yoga poses, and her own calmness gives me a sense of inner peace. " Read more

Debbie J. says, "KT's teachings are vital for anyone with a body! (Only if you want to live comfortably in said body...) She guides you to truly experience the mind-body connection that yoga is supposed to be. I have practiced yoga for over 35 years. Never has an instructor been so precise about posture and body positioning, which translates directly to safety and injury prevention. KT can tell when you're the slightest bit out of alignment! Her corrections are profound and stabilizing. When I'm working out or just going about my day, KT's teachings are in my head. If I get sloppy, the aches and strains creep in. Now I remind myself to "KT up" and my body knows it's supposed to do that mind-body connection thing for my safety and best performance." Read more

Michele says, "After spending years in physical therapy to deal with the impacts of daily stress on my body, a good friend recommended one of Pooja’s classes. During my first class, Pooja focused on legs. I left Pooja’s class without any knee pain. I was able to stretch, strengthen, and release stress in a safe and supported environment. Pooja’s ability to recognize and accept people’s feelings and abilities at any given moment enables her to facilitate a unique and personal experience. I can feel the difference in my body when I am not able to join Pooja’s classes…weekly virtual sessions with Pooja helped me be a more solid and stable parent." Read more

Your Yoga Classes questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much do yoga classes cost?

Single group sessions at yoga studios cost $15 to $20 on average. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.

A gifted teacher and exceptionally expert at her craft, KT personifies the union of mind and body. I have practiced under many yoga instructors and KT outshines them all. My chronic neck and back pain has disappeared since I started a regular practice with her.

I was introduced to Pooja (and yoga) through my doctor's office this summer, which was offering a few introductory sessions to be administered through Zoom. My first conversation with her involved going over my injury and medical history so that she could develop a personalized program to help with my back pain issues. I appreciate how personable and kind she is, and made my entry into yoga very accessible and fun. She's also an excellent communicator, able to clearly explain not only HOW to do various poses (which is helpful because I've never actually met her in person), but gets into the anatomical WHY. Her Zoom classes are helping keep me sane during the pandemic, and have really helped with my pain issues-I've had no flare-ups since I started working with her!
