Welcome! My journey to yoga didn't take a traditional path. For many, yoga starts with physical exercises and asana practice and then, if they feel called, some move onto yoga philosophy and spirituality. For me, it was the other way around. I first started with selfless service performing karma yoga at community centers, shelters, and ashrams. Through my friends in the Krishna Consciousness community, I was introduced to Bhakti yoga (yoga of love and devotion) and Jnana yoga (a path of wisdom and Knowledge). I followed my heart and made changes in my diet and lifestyle, studied spiritual texts and performed seva (selfless service). By clean ... View Profile

I have been a student of yoga since childhood. My grandfather was an Ashtanga yoga practitioner and was the first person to introduce me to yoga and meditation. Over the years, I have practiced in various yoga studios in India as well as in the United States and have been exposed to a wide range of teaching styles.  After all these years of being a yoga student, it was during the latter part of 2015, upon encouragement from fellow yogi friends, that I decided to pursue Yoga Teacher Training. I completed my training from LifePower Yoga Spring of 2016 and started to teach soon after. My personal yoga style is a fusion between yoga's classi ... View Profile

I teach 4th graders by day, and adult yogis by night (and weekend)! I completed my 200 Hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training with Mimi Rieger. I am excited to share my knowledge and joy in the practice with students. My aim is to create a personalized practice, and provide skills that will help the yogi reach their goals. I am a genderqueer person, and am particularly interested in serving populations who can feel excluded from the yoga community in D.C. As someone who has been big and visibly trans in fitness classes, I know that it can be nearly impossible to truly feel embodied when you're busy wondering if you're being judged. Reg ... How much do yoga classes cost?

Frequently asked questions

How much do yoga classes cost?

The average cost of single group sessions at yoga studios across the country is $15 to $20. For private yoga training, you will likely spend between $30 and $70 on each lesson. Yoga classes mostly take place in a group setting, and the price per class depends on the location, yoga teacher’s knowledge and experience, and years of teaching.

How long is a yoga class?

On average, a yoga class is 75 to 90 minutes long. Many instructors say 90 minutes is simply how long it takes to pace through all the sacred yoga asanas, but a new shorter 60 minute class is quickly becoming popular with students.

What to wear to yoga class?

Most women prefer to wear tank tops or a sports bra that's made of a cotton and lycra (spandex) blend when they do yoga. Loose tee shirts and underwire bras are usually a no-no because they have a tendency to get in the way of movement.

For the bottoms, most women prefer to wear tights. These comfortable and stretchable pants will provide you with a full range of movement and allow your instructor to check your alignment. For slower-paced classes, you may be able to pull off wearing long skirts or stretchable harlem pants.

What to bring to yoga class?

Although many necessities are usually provided for you, there are a few things you may still want to bring yourself.

Here's what to bring to yoga class:

  1. Comfortable yoga attire
  2. Water bottle
  3. Hand towel
  4. Yoga mat
  5. Change of clothes
  6. Post-yoga snack

How often should you do yoga?

For those who are already quite active, doing yoga at least once or twice per week is recommended. For experienced practitioners, doing yoga every day is not uncommon. However, if you begin to be sore, consider taking a day or two off. Even if you only do you for one hour a week, you will experience the benefits of the practice.

How long does it take to get good at yoga?

There are many beginner yoga poses and sequences that you can get good at in your first yoga class. On a more spiritual level, it may take a lifetime to find the union between mind, body and spirit. You should expect to practice regularly for about six months before you feel confident that you can perform fundamental poses steadily and with some degree of proper form.
