Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to talk with a new student, on the phone or (whenever possible) in person, about what they're looking for, where they are physically (and maybe emotionally), what they need and what they want, like and don't like. The conversation doesn't end there—it goes on throughout our work together—but it has to start with sharing.
Then, we'll schedule our first session. We may be ready to jump in to a very classroom-like experience, or we may want to spend time getting to know the scope of our practice together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began practicing yoga regularly in 2004 and began taking workshops at the Kripalu Center in western Massachusetts that year. I studied at Jaya Yoga Center, Brooklyn, and became a 200 hour RYT in 2016. Continuing education is vital, and I study every chance I get. Most recently I deepened my yin teaching and added to my training with a Yoga Alliance certified 50 hour yin yoga certification with Bernie Clark in Vancouver.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Individual sessions in your home or in my studio begin at $125; a two person semi-private class is $90/person; for three to five students, the rate drops to $200 for the group. Group classes at home require sufficient space for social distancing.
Online classes are available beginning at $20/half hour and $30/hour.
In special circumstances, sliding scale pricing is available.
How did you get started teaching?
After years of practice, and a 200 hour teacher training program, I began by helping my best friend recover after her son was born. She needed help getting both her physical and her emotional self back after the birth, but maybe more important, she needed something that was just for her, just about her.
Now I teach both private and group classes, in studios and homes. It's absolutely the best job in the world.
