Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I go over simple drills to understand how their bodies work, and then I help them understand how their bodies work. And then begin building their personal self defense.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started learning karate in 1984. I loved it so much, and went to class every chance I got. I studied Okinawan Kempo at first. I studied for about 4 years. I then took Chun Kuk Do for about 6 months. While I really enjoyed that art, I moved to San Diego, and took Tang Soo Do. I took that for 3 month's and then stumbled across Chinese Kenpo. I was hooked. I then studied Chinese Kenpo on and off for about 10 Years. Then I moved back to Oregon. I was without anyone to train with, so I took some Krav Maga Classes, and a few Okinawan Kempo classes to brush up on the traditional stuff. In 2009 I got back into Chinese Kenpo, and started teaching to a handful of friends.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Private lessons are $65 per lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I showed a friend how to take a gun away from someone. And he said, "Whoa! can you teach me self defense!?" I started teaching him. He brought a friend, and then asked me if he could bring a few more. And then my friend suggested I start a small school. So I did. We opened to the public in 2010.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from 8 years, on up to about 60. I have taught Men, Women, and some folk who identify as Non Binary. And autistic folks.
