What is Evidence-Based Training?

Simply put, evidence based training just means training in a way that is proven to work and backed up by legitimate scientific research. Unfortunately, we live in a world of internet experts where everybody has an opinion on everything. It's easier than ever to google "how to get in shape"  or "how to get big arms" and read the first nonsense that pops up. The reality is that most things you read about fitness on the internet are half-truths, circumstantial truths, or blatantly wrong.  This is a tough pill to swallow because not many people have the time, energy, or education to sift through sea of bad advice to find the good advice...

...And that's where ASF comes in. Being up to date on the latest fitness research is what we do so that you don't have to.

I look forward to going to work each and every day for a myriad of reasons. First and foremost, making a tangible and positive impact in somebody's life is what fulfills me as a professional. I love watching my client's confidence grow as thier abilities grow. Simply put, we don't mess around at ASF. We deliver results.

Secondly, learning the science behind human fitness has been my life's passion and I look forward to learning new information as new research is published.

Before training with Kyle, I was scared to try new workouts in the gym - you would only find me on the elliptical or treadmill! After receiving months of training from Kyle, I feel more comfortable trying new equipment and challenging myself with weights in the gym. Kyle has taught me the correct form for different workouts and what parts of the body I am strengthening during each move. I have seen more progress that I have ever imagined physically and mentally. I can always count on having a fun and motivating session with Kyle!

Before working out with Kyle, my gym routine was limited to the basic machines and exercises. Kyle has taught me what exercises are best suited for specific parts of the body and how to utilize different gym machines, and I now have the confidence to expand my workouts at home and on my own at the gym. His app gives you the abiliity to track your progress and sync with other apps for nutrition tracking as well. His guidance and advice gives you the knowledge and tools to achieve your individual health goals!

Kyle customizes my workouts while always keeping in mind my physical/medical conditions. He challenges me and ensures I am working toward personal bests and optimal core conditioning. His patience and encouragement keep me continuing to workout with him twice a week. He is knowledgeable in more than just fitness and strives to encourage healthy nutritional habits. His genuineness shines through making workouts comfortable and productive.

Kyles knowledge of fitness is key and he routinely communicates with me though the app to keep me on track. The app is SUPER easy to use. The videos help to provide visual instruction and it also links to my Fitbit and my fitness pal

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

A simple phone consultation is usually where I start, followed by a free fitness assessment to assess their "point A". Point B is totally up to them and their goals, and I help us draw the line between the two points. Gathering this data is important so we can put defined metrics on progress.

I am not a cheerleader coach who yells and screams at his clients. I am an educator! If you are looking for somebody to teach you HOW to achieve your goals in a professional, meaningful way then we are a good fit for each other

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

B.S. Exercise Science

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA)

Certified Personal Trainer (ACSM)

As a certified personal trainer (ACSM) and strength and conditioning specialist (NSCA), Kyle has worked with a wide range of clients from the average person looking to drop a few pounds to high-level high school and college athletes. He believes that every person, not just elite athletes, deserves an evidence-based exercise program that is grounded in scientific principles rather than what the latest issue of Men's Health is saying. It was this passion that drove Kyle to get his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Montclair State University. He considers himself a life-long student of fitness and is up to date on the most current and relevant research.
