Our club meets every Thursday evening at the Baierl Family YMCA, one half mile from the Wexford Exit of Route 79, about 20 minutes north of the city of Pittsburgh. Practical Street Defense and Isshinryu Karate for teens and adults begins at 8 pm. All classes are taught by Isshinryu black belts with a minimum of 35 years of experience in the martial arts. The class focuses on Isshinryu Karate but incorporates Thai Boxing, Krav Maga, Jiu-Jitsu, and other elements as well. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We try and give a lot of individualized attention. All belts can be earned up through black belt.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The class is taught by two third degree black belts and one first degree black belt. All instructors have more than 35 years of experience in Isshinryu Karate and other disciplines.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The cost is $70 per eight week session. There is also a single annual fee of $70. For individuals who are already members of the Baierl Family YMCA, the cost is less.
How did you get started teaching?
We love teaching people how they can defend themselves.
What types of students have you worked with?
Beginners are very welcome. We also enjoy having experienced practitioners work out with us. The adults class is for teenagers and older. We have a good mix of girls, boys, women, and men and a broad spectrum of ages.
