Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After a client decides to start lessons, we schedule the very first class to meet in the gym and go over their custom training plan needed to reach their end goals. This first-class is a paid trial lesson where the client can decide if this is a good fit. The introductory price is $99, including a boxing t-shirt, leather training gloves, and protective hand wraps.
After the first class and the client decides to continue, we will cover the curriculum, training calendar, and monthly tuition.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my first-degree blackbelt in karate in 1999. From 2017 - 2020 I was the boxing trainer at Terry Middleton's Martial Arts. I teach numerous self-defense classes, and I'm a certified CPR trainer with the American Red Cross. I was inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2017 for promotor of the year.
Last year I was the fight/stunt coordinator for a new movie called "A Fathers Fight," filmed in Corydon and New Albany, IN.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My private Boxing classes are based on two 1-hour classes per week with a 12 week minimum commitment from the client. Tuition is paid monthly in advance at $199 per month which breaks down to roughly $25 per lesson.
The first 1-hour "trial" class is $99 which inludes the the first training lesson, boxing t-shirt, leather training gloves and protective hand wraps.
How did you get started teaching?
I started my journey with karate classes in 1997 that led me to become an instructor at the school in 1999. I also teach boxing and self-defense classes for teens and adults.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with hundreds of students of all ages and abilities. Most of my students just want to get in good shape and gain self confidence. The ages run from 6 to 75 years old.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
About three years ago I was recruited to be the stunt and fight coordinator for a new local movie that was scheduled to begin filming in Corydon and New Albany Indiana. I worked in the ring with two local actors for almost a year at Terry Middleton’s 4th floor boxing gym in New Albany Indiana.
Although Covid 19 slowed us down, with a lot of hard work and determination from the crew, and especially Mr. Tyler Samson who directed the film, it was completed early this year.
It opened on the big screen in Corydon on March 12th, 2021 and is playing limited big screens in the Midwest. To see the cool awards this movie has already won, visit the Facebook page. We hope to get news soon of when A Father’s Fight will be in stores and/or streaming.
I had a small role in the movie as the corner man and trainer for one of the fighters. Go See This Movie!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice is to sign up for a "trial" class before commiting to a membership. Make sure the instructor listens to your needs and answers all of your questions.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Many students want to know how long it takes to learn how to box. If you want to see measureable results, the 30-day and 90-day mark will prove that the program is benifiting you in many ways.
