Im excited to be writing about my experiences at Rick Wongs Chinese Martial Arts Center.
Classes focus on personal improvement in a welcoming and supportive environment.
In my adult class, there is a wide range of ages, fitness, experience, and abilities. Students have included extremely fit people in their 20s up to and including elderly or impaired people in their 80s.
Ricks strong understanding of the body encourages good practice and minimizes the chance of injury.
As a large-ish middle-aged woman, I find the content of classes are challenging but definitely achievable. Rick creates an environment that fosters learning, is non-competitive and non-toxic.
Other students are encouraging and supportive.
Rick is a kind and patient teacher who works well with students of all levels.
More experienced students will recognize and appreciate Ricks depth of knowledge, while beginners can rest assured that they will be welcomed and treated respectfully.
Whether youre a complete novice who is curious about Tai Chi or an experienced practitioner, Rick has a lot to offer.

I was curious about tai chi, but wasn’t even sure what it was. I had heard that it was good for flexibility, balance, strength and relaxation. With more than a little nervousness and self-consciousness, I attended one of Rick Wong’s beginner classes. I was immediately welcomed into the group. After some stretching and warming up, Rick had us begin with very simple movements that he both demonstrated and explained. Every week we built on what we had practiced, and within a few months, we had learned a complete form.
In addition to being a martial arts master, Rick is a practicing physical therapist who understands how the body moves. Not only is Rick a very knowledgeable teacher, he is very patient and kind. He never puts anyone on the spot, and he provides a lot of helpful information, including very useful explanations of the martial arts origins of various movements. Rick has many long-time students whose loyalty is a testament to his teaching ability, friendly demeanor and good humor.
I highly recommend Rick Wong’s tai chi classes!

I have been one of Rick Wong’s fortunate students for more than twenty years. And my longevity qualifies me to say that I have always been assured of receiving valuable instruction and insight in his classes. Rick manages to deliver fresh information and new corrections that improve the performance of students at all levels—those long-experienced students as well as the most basic beginners. I am in awe of his enduring patience with both.
Rick understands that individuals learn differently, so his teaching includes visual, auditory, and kinetic instruction. He stresses applications, and in order to give his students the most complete understanding possible, he demonstrates and explains what each move is meant to accomplish.
He is ever mindful that tai chi is a serious martial art, not some graceful little dance. Even so, when Rick Wong performs tai chi—as other professional martial artists frequently call upon him to do—his performance inspires, and for a moment at least, the person watching can believe that somehow, someday that level of achievement is possible.

Sifu Rick is an excellent teacher and world class knowledgable chinese martial artist. He has given me an exposure to all aspects of chinese martial arts, from forms, sparring, drills, applications, training methods, partner and solo exercises, enough to satisfy anyones curiosity into martial arts. On top of that, he promotes a well balanced, fun, friendly, engaging environment but well defined by nothing shorter than hard work.

Sifu Rick Wong is fluent in many wide-ranging styles of Chinese Martial arts. He is an extremely gifted coach, competitor, performer and healer. He is capable of teaching in many modes, adapting his teaching approach to each students best way of learning, to optimize the students ability to learn new material. He teaches forms and basic practice, sparring and applications, bare hand and weapons. He has built a school with a very strong sense of community and purpose. I have studied with Sifu Rick for nearly 20 years and do not feel Im close to learning all he has to teach.
