What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Get to know them individually, assess their goals, and work with them to build an individual program for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My formal education includes an undergraduate degree, masters degree, and doctorate. I have 50 years of experience in martial arts. Our school is certified to teach Isshin Ryu karate and Tokushin Kobudo.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Generally, we have monthly pricing, but classes change over time. Weapons and advanced self defense are included.
How did you get started teaching?
I started cleanng my first Sensei's Dojo and helping with new students. Then I instructed at a local community college martial arts club.
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with all students. The only thing that matters for me is effort. Effort has no color, religion, or politics. I want best effort, mixed with honor, respect, truth, and perseverance.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Any community work is rewarding.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Ask questions and thoroughly vett the school. We are an unregualted industry with many pretenders.
