About this pro

I've been a bodymind practitioner for 31 years, and I have a lot of experience with different issues concerning the interface of the mind in the body.

Having worked with myself since I was 14 to cure and correct my scoliosis, I understand the dedication it takes to make changes within one's self and try to inspire my students to see efforts made in that direction as an adventurous journey.

I enjoy seeing the light go on in my students when they get something. And the great thing about that is that the experience is now theirs! They know what it took to let whatever it was to happen, so they can repeat the process consciously.

I think others should definitely know how wonderful you are and how much more you have to offer than most instructors or teachers. Having taken from many movement instructors, and as a previous Pilates and Gyrotonics instructor and dancer myself, I know how rare it is to have someone with so much experience and training be so present throughout every session and movement and be sincerely interested in my learning every step of the way.

Ever since I began my Alexander training with Cate, I trust my body more and am overall more relaxed and more present. I feel like a new chapter is unfolding. I'm finally able to begin unravelling the tension in my body. I just love it and am so thankful I found her. I'm in such a good place now. Compared to when I first found Cate, I feel like a totally different person. And my shoulder is healed thanks to her.

Cate was very careful to explain the technique in detail. What it was. What to expect. She is extremely gentle, and concerned about her student the entire time. I wholeheartedly recommend Cate for pain management and improved posture.

With The Listening Body®, I'm consistently seeing ground breaking shifts in my mental and physical habits. Cate helped me relax and stay present for a recent short film I was cast in. My usual habit of critical voices and physical tension was gone. I was free from moment to moment and fully connected to the work. Cate taught me the Alexander Technique "Lie Down", "Whispered Ah's", combined with Meditation, Yoga, that I use daily and make part of my acting preparation. My sessions with Cate, cultivated an awareness of my habits, developing tools to release the habits and making significant changes in my life and work as an actor.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I address their postural and movement patterns in the process of the lesssons. I inform them that it takes time to make more than superficial change and to be patient with themselves. Bodymind work is not like ordering a pizza!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I've been a bodymind practitioner of many modalities for 31 years. I began as a massage therapist and was certified in CranioSacral Therapy, Reiki, Yoga, BodyMindCentering, the Alexander Technique and more.

Having worked since I was 14 to cure my own scoliosis that I accomplished, I understand the interface of the bodymind and of the importance of understanding the affects on the body of the mind.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

For a first lesson it's $100, and following lessons $80, but if you buy a 9 Lesson package, it goes down to $75.

How did you get started teaching?

As most people begin something, is because of their own curiosity and need to study. I began as a continuation of my curiosity of the bodymind interface.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with children aged 11 to 77 with their posture and behavioral habits.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I'm working with an older woman who has a severe lordosis, who is showing signs of her spine lengthening and more stability and balance.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I don't teach groups right now. I teach privately in my studio in Manhattan's East Village. You have to come to my studio because I have all the tools I need here, like massage table, mats, and yoga props.

I wish people to be serious about what they are inquiring about and curious about studying themselves.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Are they serious and dedicated to answering their curiosity about the issues they want to explore?

Are they in it for a deeper understanding of themselves or for superficial reasons of improving their appearance? If it's the latter, they need not seek my help. If it is the former, I am here to help with issues of pain, anxiety, trauma, disassociation, scoliosis or spinal distortions and pain. Let's get to work!
