Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All of new students start their training in classes with their pears. Our classes are split up according to age groups and ranks. New students join year round and are easily integrated into our system.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been doing taekwondo for 27 years. I have been to countless training seminars to perfect the art of taekwondo and to teach the art of taekwondo. I am a father to 5 and love working with children. I have a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas which helped me with problem solving, organization and attention to detail.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our starter course is 4 weeks of classes and a uniform for $79. This gives us time to evaluate the student and for the family to evaluate us to see if we are a good fit for each other. After the starter course our tuition starts at $109 per month and goes up depending on number of family members that join and length of term you wish to commit for. A month to month membership for 1 is $139 per month.
How did you get started teaching?
The school I was training at had an excellent instructor program. I was in college at the time with the intent of becoming a school teacher. I loved taekwondo and teaching it to others took it to the next level. So instead of becoming a school teacher, I changed majors and opened my first taekwondo academy in 1998.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have students ranging in ages from 4 to 60 something. We have as many girls as we have boys. Our best success has been with students that have learning disabilities, attention disorders and special physical developmental needs. The fact that the classes are challenging and fun make it much easier for us to improve our students in the discipline, focus and attention required of all of our students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We had an instructor team building trip to the beach. I was very proud to watch them improve their athletic skills on a yoga ball while being courtesy and respectful to those around them. The beach was beautiful and we had a great time.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
We deal with this all the time when our current students move to other cities and try to find another school to train in. My first advise is find a place you feel comfortable regardless of the art being taught. Taekwondo, karate, kung fu all have fundamental skills that everyone will benefit from if they are taught correctly. Know you goals and ask the teachers how they plan to help you get there. Some schools are better than others at different goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Know you goals and ask how the school can help you. Ask how the schedule works. Many schools limit students to twice a week on specific days and charge more for more options. We offer a full schedule and your schedule is yours to manage. Come once this week, 4 times next week or whatever works for you. Ask about hidden fees. Tuition is not the only fee and many schools surprise you after you are under contract. We do not have contracts and we go through all of you costs before you join.
