How did you get started teaching?
I embarked Asana practice 9 years ago in Bikram Yoga and deepened my practice through Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin/Restorative. Then I realized my passion to teach yoga when I incorporated gentle yoga stretch and guided meditation through a health education program I designed for seniors living with chronic conditions, such as type II diabetes and heart disease. As I continued to delve into my practice, a love of yoga compelled me to pursue the opportunity to educate others in a fun, stress-relieving and safe way.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and different sizes. I started out working with seniors 60+ years of age then moved into working with adults and adolescents, including athletes of all ages.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am truly fond of teaching yoga in the park and restorative yoga. I find it beneficial for the student to practice a restorative yoga practice.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
For the goals and needs of the student, it would be beneficial for both student and teacher to have all inquiries, questions and expectations written down. That way the student will be well prepared in case other quetions may arise during the consultation with the Yoga teacher.
