About

Mandy Flannery is an RYT500 yoga instructor. She has practiced yoga for about 15 years. She received her RYT500 from Edge Yoga School in Naperville in June of 2020 and has received additional training in yin yoga, meditation, sound healing, and trauma informed yoga. She currently teaches at YogaFace & Body Spa and LA Fitness. She is also a brand ambassador for Yoloha Yoga.

Mandy’s journey to yoga teacher training is one of hardship. In July of 2018 her husband, Pat, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. While finishing graduate school, Mandy became full time caretaker for her husband while he underwent chemo and radiation therapy. For one hour a day, yoga gave her the time and space she needed to become open, raw, and deal with the emotions she was afraid to confront off the mat. But through her asana practice she felt strong and powerful, and it gave her the courage to continue to fight. A year after Pat was declared cancer free, she began her journey at Edge. Mandy and Pat built their dream home in Lockport, IL where they live with their two kitties, Bella and Norman, and their pup, Kaylee.

You can connect with Mandy on any of her social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook @thetealyogi.

Frequently asked questions

When working 1:1 with a new student, I like to spend some time discussing previous yoga experience, the student's goals for their practice, and any potential injury or medical issues that need to be addressed in our sessions.

I have a bachelor's and master's degree in biology, where I studeied anatomy extensively. Before I began teaching yoga, I worked in the medical field where I used and continued to expand on my anatomy knowledge everyday. In additional to being a 500 hour registered yoga teacher (RYT), I have additional training in yin yoga, trauma informed yoga, and meditation.

I have regularly scheduled public classes offered online. My drop in rate is $10 per class.

I also have an On Demand library of classes, meditations, and tutorials available on my site for $15 per month.

I've been on and off my mat for about 20 years now. But in July of 2018 my husband, Pat, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. While finishing graduate school, I became full time caretaker for my husband while he underwent chemo and radiation therapy. For one hour a day, yoga gave me the time and space I needed to become open, raw, and deal with the emotions I was afraid to confront off the mat. But through my asana practice I felt strong and powerful, and it gave me the courage to continue to fight. A year after Pat was declared cancer free, I began my yoga teacher training. I completed a 200 hour and a 500 hour yoga teacher training program, as well as additional trainings in yin yoga, trauma informed yoga, and meditation.

I have a variety of clients from novice yogis to experienced yogis, and even fellow yoga teachers. My students range in age from their 20's through their 60's and 70's. Many of my students are dealing with health issues and injuries which have led them to try yoga as a form of rehab. I myself suffered a hip injury when I was gymnast in my teens, and that inititally led me to the practice about 15 years ago.

Be honest about what goals you have for your practice, the direction you want to take in order to get there, and find someone that you connect with.
