How did you get started teaching?
I began training, at first, by helping my sister, who has struggled with her weight since a young girl. I have always been training myself, I enjoyed gymnastics , track , and swimming as a boy and continued into college, where I entered triathlons. While I was recovering from a crushed knee, I studied Gray Cook’s book Movement. My knee injury was due to years of sport specific training. This could have been avoided. And my sister needed encouragement, support, and advice on how to continue on her goal of losing 80 lbs.! It was so natural for me to help her because I could empathize with the struggle and realized I had been helping others. through out my life, to take fitness seriously. But have fun in the journey. I went to the Academy of Personal Training that year!
What types of students have you worked with?
All ! I like them all! I can help and Coach All.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Mona came to me at 62 after a hip replacement. She could walk stiffly and with some pain. She had great difficulty sitting in a chair without holding on to something. 6 mths : she walks with ease and wide stride , upright posture, And can get down on the floor ! Without any help and get back up Without any help...... she says “gracefully.” I Agree. Her doctor noticed right away.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure they are stable, they are reliable, are disciplined, mature, have long term success. I have lived in the Fenway area of Boston for 25 years. I worked for the Boston Ballet for 8 years, coached 8 years for the top ranked college-prep high school Boston Latin, and received a Masters in Performance from Boston University.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How important Is this? What is more important ? Is this worth your time and money? What will you gain from this? Who should I trust with this ?
