Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The normal process is to meet with every new student, give them a tour of our Academy and identify the goals they would like to achieve in learning martial arts. Next is to start the two week introductory classes and assess which art would best fit them and assist them in acheiving their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been doing martial arts for over 46 years. I hold the rank "Sifu" in Wing Chun Kung-fu, 4th Degree Black belts in Tae Kwon Do and the Filipino Martial art of Escrima. I served in the US Army for 30 years and have been deployed around the world training and leading hundreds of sericemembers . I am the current Global Stick and Blade Alliance (GSBA)World Champion in Padded Stick fighting and forms.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We offer three seperate styles of martial arts and three different membership types. Each program is on case by case basis and is tailored to the individual. Our prices vary based on the student's training desires, aptitude and goals.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching martial arts since my Junior High School years and always have loved to share the passion of martial arts with others. For me, teaching Martial Arts is more than just kicking and punching. It's "Life Coaching". We use martial arts as the vehicle to train a person in building a lifestyle that produces a positive mindset, physical and mental well being as well as providing a means to protect themselves.
What types of students have you worked with?
Our students have ranged from 3 year old "Lil Pandas" to a 72 year old gentleman who studied Escrima and cane/ walking stick self-defense.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Within the last year I was blessed to promote two of my grandchildren to the Junior Blackbelt ranks and they should test for their Blackbelts this year. Truly a humbling and amazing experience!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Meet the Master or Chief instructor of the school in person. What's their goal as a teacher and does it coincide with your goals for taking martial arts? Do you feel you can trust them with you and your loved ones? What is their experience and or qualifications/certifications? Do they demonstrate a since of proffesionalism? Watch how they instruct and how the students respond. Most importantly....do you like their personality?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If you have a specific requirement/ desire for the instruction, (ie; weight loss, self-defense, 5 finger death punch) let the Instructor know and see if they can or will be able to assist you in fulfilling your goal. If they aren't, ask their proffesional opinion as to why not.
