What is your typical process for working with a new student?

New students enjoy a free trial class.  For children, it is a great way for them to try out our program and for our professional staff to evaluate them to see if they are ready (maturity-wise) to start lessons.  For adults, it is a great way for the student to familiarize themselves with the school before making the commitment to train in our Academy.

How did you get started teaching?

I made black belt in karate at age 15 and became a staff member in the Academy I was learning in at that time.  I've been teaching ever since.

What types of students have you worked with?

All types and ages.  My oldest student is 76.  My youngest is 3.  I've taught police officers, people in the military, FBI agents, parents, teens, kids, children with autisim, ADD and other special needs.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

We have an annual Martial Arts Training Camp in June that is the highlight for most students in our Academy.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Go by referrals.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Check with the Academy they are looking at to see if there are any hidden charges beyond what they tell you when you enroll.  Also, look at the testimonials.
