About
A dojo founded by a Sensei who holds senior rank, who has 40+ years of teaching experience with both adults and children, and I also have 16 + years working in the security/bouncing field. I teach Traditional Martial Arts with real life and modern application. Offering classes for self-defense, personal growth, and discipline in the forum of private, semi-private, and in-home classes. I make it so it's hard for the student to miss class, I am extremely flexible! If you cannot train one day, I will offer the next, and so on until you are available! I've heard every excuse in the book why a student cannot make it to class, I've been there and I've probably used half of those excuses at the beginning of my training. Guest teachers are brought in for varying perspectives and expertise in workshops and group events. Classes For Kids. Classes For Adults. Classes for beginners and for the advanced. All are welcome. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY PLEASE! I take my teaching, what I share, and the relationship with my students VERY serious! If you want to learn, I am here for you! I can help with understanding dedication and commitment to Martial Arts, some are naturals, and some need honest encouragement from their teacher. What you don't think can fit in your life, CAN! Let me show you how!
My name is Sensei Lee Koechig, I have been training in Martial Arts since 1982 primarily in Aikido, Judo, and Japanese Jiu Jitsu, and Kenpo 5.0 Karate. I have training in Wing Chun Kung Fu, and Shaolin Kung Fu. I also dabble in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Chin Na, and work with other teachers to gain knowledge of their respective arts. I started my professional training in instruction to others in 1994 which allowed me to continue my training from a teacher’s perspective of learning. I have a secondary business called “Control and Restraint” in which I teach proper joint manipulation to various music venues, bars and other establishments in efforts to limit the liability and more effectively protect the patrons and security staff.
"I incorporated the Bouncing, Doorman, and Security profession to supplement my training 14 plus years ago. In this profession I have developed a sense of what works and what doesn’t in keeping myself and the patrons safe in realistic situations."
One may find it odd that I mention Bouncing, Doorman, and Security as a supplement to my training however the complement between these professions and certain Martial Art concepts are astounding. Some examples include neutralization without physical conflict, situational awareness (Zanshin), Mushin Mind (empty mind with no preconceived notions about what is or isn’t going to happen). Over the years, I have found there is a huge difference in dojo Martial Arts and realistic application in today’s world. All too often we become patterned in the dojo based solely on tradition however in most Martial Arts the founders did have an intention for the art to evolve with the times. As in today’s world where there is no honor among men, a perfect example would be the sucker punch. It would be completely dishonorable in Feudal Japan to sucker punch or attack another in some other cowardice way.
As a passionate Sensei (teacher) I have a strong desire to share my training, knowledge, and experience that reflect the benefits Martial Arts and the Bouncing, Doorman, Security profession have in my life. I also have a passion for fitness which I have implemented in my Martial Arts training.
"I teach both adults and children private and semi-private classes. In choosing the private, semi private, in-home realm of instruction, I have found that most get lost in a group setting and often find themselves feeling frustrated to the point of losing the confidence to continue. The private or semi-private setting allows the student and teacher more individualistic teaching and learning tailoring the class to the student’s needs."
I firmly believe in this concept as did my first Aikido teacher who chose to offer me private instruction at the beginning of my training path. I chose to call my dojo (training hall) Musubi Martial Arts as the word “Musubi” literally means connection, as in connection with others we encounter in serious situations.
