Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to meet with a prospective client and understand where he/she is currently at with regards to their health, activity level and overall wellness. During this discussion, I try to find out what his/her motivation is for making this change (“the why factor”) and develop some SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound). The whole process for me is about meeting the potential client where he/she is at (a consciously tailored approach for beginners all the way to advanced individuals) while providing the necessary coaching and accountability in ordered for him/her to meet/exceed their goals!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
* ISSA - Certified Personal Trainer (International Sports Sciences Association)
* ISSA specialization in Fitness Nutrition
* 4 years of training, 5+ days per week with a certified personal trainer and IFBB Professional athlete - Alex Woodson

How did you get started teaching?
I was in a car accident five years ago and gained 50 pounds in less than a year due to inactivity during my recovery period and all the pain medications I was prescribed which lead to depression and emotional eating. I reached a point where I didn’t want to be in my own skin anymore (avoiding mirrors, pictures and events with family and friends), couldn’t find the joy in life and was fairly miserable. This continued for a couple of years and finally I knew I needed to make a change because I didn’t want to live like that anymore, so I found a trainer on Google and started working out regularly with him, eating right and I took charge of my life. These efforts made such an impact on my life, I decided I wanted to leave the secure corporate job I had for over 12 years to become a certified personal trainer and help others do the same and live their best lives!
What types of students have you worked with?
Men and women who have wanted to lose weight, gain lean muscle, increase energy, feel better about themselves, learn to meal prep/cook delicious, balanced meals and live a better life.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I’m working with an ICU nurse who has a crazy schedule and a high stress work environment that came to me looking to lose weight, increase energy and self esteem. 30-days into his program, he has lost 14 pounds without feeling deprived (currently on 2000 daily calories and custom macros for his goals), reported increased energy and noticed positive changes in his body composition. Whenever I talk with him, I can see and hear things changing for the better in his life which fills me with happiness.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Meet with him/her and determine if you’re just another client (a numbers game) or if you believe he/she has the character and genuine interest necessary to be there for/with you on the good days and bad days. Someone who holds tightly your goals and vision of who you want to become and reminds you of that when you forget or lose confidence, when things get tough, as well as uses that information to cheer you on when you succeed and remind you you’re making progress! The trainer you choose should create a roadmap to get you to your goals and vision and be your champion through the process.
