We are a traditional Okinawan Karate school. We teach traditional Shorin Ryu Shorinkan Karate Kobayashi system. I have 18yrs experience in this style and I also teach traditional Okinawan weapons "Kobudo ". I have been in martial arts a total of 36 years. I get the sweet opportunity to see changes in people's lives, health, confidence, etc. As they learn they enjoy life and how precious it can be. I love seeing little kids and adults both who are bullied stand up to those challenges they face and overcome them with confidence. Plus I get to do something everyday I always dreamed about as a kid growing up. How cool is that!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to ask what brought them to the martial arts? Have they tried anything before? What do they want to gain? Then we start with exercises to develop muscle memory and balance in their stances.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 36 years of experience with multiple styles and black belts in those styles I participated in as well as being on the Midwest kickboxing circuit for over two years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$85 monthly tuition. One time registration fee of $35 and uniform fee of $35. We also prorate for more than one person and offer college student discounts.
How did you get started teaching?
Numerous styles I learned it was apart of the goal.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. Recently I've had quite a few of kids and adults with ADDH disorders. Aspergers, fetal alcohol syndrome, autistic high function, partial paralysis, mentally and physically handicapped, deaf and blind students. We take anyone willing to learn.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my students just recently tested for his Shodan rank. It was incredible. He did an incredible job representing my school. Why is this remarkable because he was quite a bully when he first joined and I had to have multiple talks with him and his parents about episodes that happened at the school. After about a year he finally realized what I was talking about and chose to change his life from then on. Very complete success story and he's become a very good teacher at my school.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be patient and shop around go watch classes to see what the teachers are like, as well as how the students act. What's the feeling like in the school? If it's not good I'd be concerned.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why am I doing this and do I have the patience to continue when it gets hard or seems monotonous.
