About
Hello,
Hi fellow fitness and/or baseball enthusiasts. Steve Leppert here, or Lep works best.
Thanks for stopping by,
PLAY BALL!
I'm now Specializing in Senior Fitness Training for Seniors & baseball as a former 1980 College All-American Baseball Player @ Jacksonville State University, and a 2nd generation professional baseball player. My pop Don (passed, April 13, 2023) was a former client in retirement in Naples, FL) and was a MLB 1963 American League All-Star Catcher (Washington Senators) & went long in his first AB for a Home Run as his first hit with The Pirates in 1960. Pop then was a longtime MLB Coach for The Pirates, Blue Jays, Houston Astros & then The Minor League Farm Director for The Minnesota Twins in their heyday in late 90s, and he has 3 World Series Rings. Pittsburgh Pirates in 1971 (I attended those 3 *home games at 12) & '87 & '91 Twins. *First EVER W.S. night game.
I started at SS, hit 3rd as a freshman in H.S with 8 Seniors, & was drafted from H.S., in the 16th round as a C (Boston Celtic's great hoopster, now Executive Danny Ainge was the 15th pick) by The Toronto Blue Jays and again in the 5th round out of JSU by The Cincinnati Reds as a 2b in 1980 after my All-American Junior year @ Jacksonville State.
I hit .423 and was 23/24 in SB, with no errors in CF. I then signed with The Reds and was soon on their radar with my tenacity for 3+ years & The Pgh Pirates before a back injury, facet fracture derailed my career.
As a kid I/family spent most springs in S. FL. @ Spring Training & summer traversing North & winters Latin America.
After baseball I got into the fitness industry in multiple capacities, from Membership Sales Director, Commercial Equipment Sales/Club Design, to Club Management & Personal Training.
I look forward to hearing from you. No question is off the wall but PLEASE do not just shop rates. I get results.
I keep very few select clients and have 2 am openings available MWF & Tues, Th & Sat. from 6a-9a. for fitness. We train here & outside. I'm open to traveling, rates may change.
Do inquire if 2 days work better. If so no Fri or Sat., just from experience in cancellations.
Baseball rates come in prepaid packages of 1, 5 or 8 packs. You're @ 1 for
$65 , 5 @ $300 or 8 @ $420.
If you want to try one, & continue, that $65 goes towards a package rate.
Thanks again-

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, we simply play catch w no gloves & tennis balls. Secondly, I see how they throw and receive the ball. Third, I ask them to show me how they hold the ball throwing, & the bat hitting. Then, depending on their position, we work on those basic fundamentals, strengths, possible weaknesses and how to improve them.
I have played C, SS, 3b, 2b & CF at some level, and have a firm grasp on them. As far as pitcher's, once they turn 13-14 I turn them over to a qualified pitching coach. Growing up as the son of a Major Leaguer I saw many of the greats play, and was a sponge as a toddler until age 18 going to multiple spring trainings in FL, winter ball in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela and going to Forbes Field, then Three Rivers Stadium in Pgh with pop.
Fitness is obviously unique...it's a very personal choice, so I like to sit down, or talk, not text & assess your interest level, why now, & what will make this time different?
First & FOREMOST, my sessions are FUN. You will look forward to it, as you'll feel better. We'll DEF get in all your work, that's promised, however other than most trainers, I KNOW that people like to PLAY, & HAVE FUN! Age unnecessary. Fitness level unnecessary. I do everything I can think of to alleviate boredom and mindless repetitions.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Drafted twice, once out of H.S. 1977 (16th round) Toronto Blue Jays and College 1980 Cincinnati Reds (5th round).
1980 All Conference - Gulf South
1980 College Baseball All-American
I.S.S.A. Certified Fitness Trainer from 2001.
I.I.S.A. Certified In-Line Skate Instructor by Rollerblade from 1993
Winner of First Place in 2001 Body for Life Masters (over 40) Transformation Challenge & $5,000.
I lost 35 pounds of bodyfat & gained 5 lbs of muscle in 90 days for a total loss of 30lbs from 200 to 170.
*NOTE FROM MY COLLEGE BASEBALL COACH, Alabama Hall of Famer Rudy Abbott.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Individual, group and package rates. The more you schedule, the better the pricing.
How did you get started teaching?
My father was a Major League Player/Coach, and after my professional baseball career I entered the fitness industry, encompassing high end exercise equipment sales, facility planning & design, Health Club Management, Personal Training Instruction and Sales. I enjoy instructing and coaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked from ages 4-85, special needs students, disabled children and adults, a paraplegic, Mrs. Indiana, amatuer/professional athletes, and I specialize in 'seasoned citizens' in regards to Personal Training BECAUSE I AM ONE. ;)
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I helped Becki F lose 30 lbs in 90 days, and she was literally crying & elated. I helped a shy, introverted teen in making his Jr. High baseball team...in which he was ecstatic & improved his entire confidence. His mom thanked me profusley.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Don't just shop rates, talk before and try one lesson before committing to more. Less isn't always more, and make sure they at least played and started in college, if not further professionally...
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your goal(s) and expectations, and be thorough in communicating that. Also, in this day and age, you're welcome to film the session(s), or parts dependent upon your phone etc.
