Frequently asked questions

The first thing we do with a new client is a full intake questionnaire and assessment.  The questionnaire lets the trainer know about motivations, challenges, injuries (past and current), medical conditions, struggles and challenges, medications and more.  The assessment allows us to collect quantifiable (measureable) data that we then use as a benchmark for progress, weight loss, balance, flexibilty and any other goal that we are working on.

All of our trainers possess at least one major nationally recognized personal training certification.  Many have multiple certification and we even have trainers with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or Sports Medicine.  We only hire experienced trainers.  Most of our trainers have spent years working in "big box" commercial gyms, physical therapy clinics or other environments that yield a lot of real world experience with multiple client types.  We also nationally registered dietitians.

Our pricing is set on a per session basis.  We typically have clients invest in a month worth of sessions at a time although there is nothing written in stone and we will make any arrangements needed to make this work for the client and the company.

We had become middle aged and deconditioned and went about losing the weight and getting in shape the hard way.  Once we really started studying the industry we discovered a huge need for a company to provide trainers to people's homes.  Gyms are fine if you are willing to go but most Americans don't like the experience.

We have worked with clients from all walks of life.  We have worked with studio heads, movie directors, A list actors as well as nurses, doctors, teachers and stay home moms and dads.  We have worked with kids as young as 10 and adults as old as 98.  We work with athletes, pre and post rehab clients and we even have a pre/post natal program designed for us by a doctor at USC.

This is a service business that is as much an art form as a science.  Much like hiring a doctor or surgeon.  You wouldn't hire the cheapest doctor or plastic surgeon.  You hire the best.

Make sure that someone who is offering Certified Personal Training services is currently certified.  Make sure that they have insurance and an active CPR and AED rating.  You may even want to ask for a background check before you let them in your home.

Another important thing to do is hire a company not an individual.  A company will have many trainers working for them so they can accommodate special schedules or requests (male or female trainers) and they will also have a wide array of practitioners so there will a selection of disciplines within the field.  If you hire an individual and they go on vacation for 2 weeks... you have to interrupt your training and results.  A company like Doctors Choice Fitness and Send A Trainer will provide a substitute trainer so you continue on your journey.

"Am I ready?  Am I willing to do what it takes to take my life back once and for all?"  The biggest challenge for clients is surrendering to the weight loss process.  You need to be teachable and not be a "know it all."  That is hard for some individuals.  We find it interesting when we interview potential clients and they constantly talk over us and are quick to let us know that they think that they have all the answers.  Clearly they dont and need some help or they wouldn't be fighting a weight issue.  There is no shame in have some or a lot of pounds to lose.  You just need to take ownership of the issue and ask for and be willing to receive help.
