About

The Gibborrim Academy of Martial Arts believes in teaching Wing Chun Kung Fu as the core of what our students learn to promote fitness, confidence, and self-defense.

We're located in the O'Fallon. Gibborrim Academy of Martial Arts is taught by our Chief Instructor, Ken Roberts, who is a retired U.S. Marine, and has taught martial arts for over 20 years.

I enjoy helping people reach their goals and exceed their own expectations.

I hired Ken Roberts to hold a 2 hr private self-defense lesson for my cousins & I last weekend. He clearly has a passion for martial arts but Id argue he has an equal passion for teaching. We are 3, 50-ish year olds expanding our knowledge & very happy we were able to make it. We couldnt learn everything in 2 hours but Ken picked very doable techniques for us to learn & use if necessary. He also didnt get angry at us laughing at ourselves. This was a surprise class for my cousins. We went from Please wear comfortable exercise attire cousin pre-groaning to We are going to attend his Sept class, right? Im still trying to figure that out...but Thank You Ken for introducing my cousins to your art. You should trust Ken, professional, positive, & met us each at our skill level. I RESPECTFULLY met Grandmaster Leung Ting via Sifu Mike Adams & Ken is way more fun & funny... Well be back!

Ken is a wonderful coach. Ken is coaching my 14 year old daughter boxing and she absolutely loves it . We havent had many lessons but he has been wonderfully, I am very pleased with his coaching and look forward to working with him. We are excited to continue training with him.

    Frequently asked questions

We do not train people for profession fights, or to become aggressive street fighters. We want to assess what the student is looking to gain from martial arts. If they are a good fit for our organization, then they may begin to train in our classes.

I spent 20 years in the Marine Corps, and taught and developed martial arts instructors and trainers.

I teach under the Applied Wing Chun system, that was passed down from my Sifu via his Sifu, one of the few disciplines of Ip Man.

We teach classes for teens, and separates classes for adults. No private lessons.

After a few years in the Marine Corps I was trained as a Martial Arts Instructor, and few years later became a Martial Arts Instructor Trainer. I found that I was passionate about teaching, and developing not only students in martial arts, but also training instructors, and advanced skills and techniques to special units.

I've trained military service members, military police, police officers, NATO Troops, mothers, fathers, and children.

If you're looking for martial arts, it really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for awards that provide you recognition through trophies, belts, and sashes then seek out those types of organizations. If you're looking to develop yourself mentally and physically, as well as character devleopment then look for an organization that seeks to train the entire person.

Find a martial arts studio that teaches applied concepts, and not just techniques for the purpose of promotion.

Understand what you really want from martial arts. Is it self-defense, and why? Is it personal development? Understand what you're looking for, so you know where to look.
